Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 26 September 2020
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
The Hydro is an excellent arena but far too big for a Taylor fight. Unfortunately there isn't a suitable indoor arena in Edinburgh. Meadowbank has been knocked down and when the full hall was available ( Arthur v Gomez) around 2,000 squeezed in.
I also remember attending a Calzaghe fight at the Royal Highland Showground with around 1,500 in attendance.
I don't believe any of Taylor's fights at the Hydro have reached more than 2,000.
Sadly there's not a large dedicated boxing public in Scotland any longer. There are fans of individual boxers of course and others who like a relatively rare night out. I don't really believe Taylor's views on football teams/ religion will have a great impact.

All sporting events with over 500 fans banned from Monday in Scotland.
For how long who knows.

Hard to say, a decent amount but nothing astronomical. Attendance seemed very good as a whole.
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
The guess at 7000 I assume is from the belief that the venue was half full. Please remember that the full venue wasn't available for that fight , it was sectioned off. I would agree that from the seats available it was half full. I honestly cannot accept there was anything approaching 3,000 there?

Just an estimate but for the Ryan Martin fight, it says 6000. I was there and that seems about right. Definitely well in excess of 2000. Was also an excellent atmosphere and a great venue for the fight.

He's a bit of a poser but i think his heart is in the right place. He has given a few controversial figures air time but that doesn't mean he endorses what they stand for. Guys just trying to make his own way. His family are all quite mental. I know who some of em are. He seems a soft fukker but he comes from a mad family

Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
I’d be ok with Butcher, but it’s an 80/20 type fight so I get that it’s not that exciting.
I just think he’ll try and get in some quick defences much like Farooq did
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
Think he needs stepped up so he can learn. He'd have taken a lot from that Farooq fight so there's no point going backwards. The Butcher fight is easy for McGregor. McFadden should be in with someone like Butcher next. My mate was treating Kash the other day and apparently he's meant to be in a 'title' fight in Newcastle. Feck knows what kind of title lol. He didn't have any idea of an opponent yet! I think that's shocking man!
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
Aye - what’s a title worth if you don’t even know what it is or who your fighting for it? Sod all!Stuarty wrote: ↑14 Mar 2020, 03:58

I get what you mean with McGregor and to be fair you’re probably right. I think Butcher is experienced enough to be a useful test, but it’s the type of fight he should have had three months after winning the British, not six months!
As much I wanted McGregor to win I thought he was slightly fortunate and I’d be cautious about him being moved too quickly. Get three defences in over ten to twelve months at a decent level and I think it would do him a lot of good. Then I’d be looking to push him for a European title fight or similar. There’s no huge rush but he needs to be more active
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
If it wasn’t for Celtic and Rangers it would seem pretty sectarian tbh! It doesn’t get the same media coverage but there are still a decent number of idiots who place great importance about which school you went to.
Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020
This will not be a popular opinion, especially to some Scottish but Celtic arose out of terrible sectarianism and is a club open to all with strong established socialist values. It has never had a sectarian ethos at board level unlike Rangers.
Anti-Irish sentiment is a problem primarily on the west coast but also throughout Scotland. It’s own parliament described it as “Scotland’s shame”. It’s easy to tag Celtic as part of the problem but I don’t think historically that is accurate or fair.

Queensberry Promotions Official Statement Regarding Forthcoming Boxing Events

Following the guidelines and advisory measures announced by both the Government and The British Boxing Board of Control, Queensberry Promotions feel it would be inappropriate to proceed with any forthcoming Boxing promotions in front of live audiences during April and May. The Coronavirus situation is evolving rapidly and we will continue to follow the Government’s guidelines to ensure the Health and Safety of the paying public, staff and the participants.
Regarding the two events we currently have on sale, we can confirm the following:
The ‘Seek and Destroy’ Event being headlined by Daniel Dubois v Joe Joyce on April 11 at the O2 Arena has now been rescheduled to Saturday July 11, still at the O2 Arena. Tickets will remain valid for the new date however, people who cannot attend the new date can obtain a refund from their original point of purchase.
World Champion Josh Taylor’s homecoming, scheduled for May 2 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow will no longer take place on this date. Refunds are available from the point of purchase. We are currently working with the SSE Hydro, Top Rank and MTK Global to identify a suitable alternative date to reschedule the event for the Scottish fans.
Queensberry Promotions and Top Rank have already reached agreement for Carl Frampton to challenge Jamel Herring for the WBO World Super-Featherweight Championship in Belfast in June. This event was due to be announced this week. At this moment in time, we are still hopeful of being able to stage this event in June, however, we will monitor the ever-changing landscape surrounding the Covid-19 Pandemic. Details of the date, venue and location will be announced in due course.

Of course Celtic fans are part of the problem! I live here and one is as bad as the other! You can go on about the history all you like but both clubs have a nasty bitter element to their support and both equally contribute to 'Scotlands shame'liamlion wrote: ↑16 Mar 2020, 16:34This will not be a popular opinion, especially to some Scottish but Celtic arose out of terrible sectarianism and is a club open to all with strong established socialist values. Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020 (Postponed)
Taylor has been training with Davison in Las Vegas and plans to head back to the UK in the coming days.
“I’m obviously really disappointed the fight is off, but that’s the way it goes,” Taylor told the Evening News. “It’s completely out of my control, so it’s something you’ve just got to accept. Everything happens for a reason, so it may work out for the better when I fight him at a later date.
“We’ve never experienced this kind of situation before, so we’ve just got to sit tight and follow the guidelines. I’d been sitting watching all the boxing shows scheduled for the next month or two being postponed, so it wasn’t too much of a surprise when the call finally came through to tell me it was off.
“But I’ve spent a lot of money on this training camp coming out to Vegas, having physios, masseuses, a chef to keep on top of what we’re eating nutrition-wise, so it’s really frustrating. I’ve been in camp for quite a few weeks now and although there is no alternative date yet, I would hope the fight could maybe be rescheduled for July or something like that.
"I’ll keep training in the gym and hopefully it’s not too long before I’m back in the ring.”

Aye 100% this. As long as one side feels entitled to behave the way they do it’s not getting any better. To try and paint a picture of either side as being in the right is very blinkeredStuarty wrote: ↑18 Mar 2020, 13:44Of course Celtic fans are part of the problem! Re: Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong - 2 May 2020 (Postponed)
Scotland's world champion boxer Josh Taylor admits he may not be able to fight at all in 2020 because of coronavirus restrictions.
Taylor's defence of his WBA and IBF world titles against Thailand's Apinun Khongsong, due to take place in May, has already been postponed.
The Edinburgh fighter's plans to step up to welterweight are also on hold.
"It's exciting times ahead," he told iFL TV. "Hopefully it all goes well but I might not even fight this year."
"Even non-title fights at 147 [pounds] are massive because all the names are up there," said Taylor. "You've got [Keith] Thurman, Shawn Porter, Manny Pacquiao.
"When we get back to normality, hopefully I become undisputed champion and move up to 147."
Although the stars of that division are based in the United States, Hibernian fan Taylor insists the Khongsong bout will not be the last time he fights on Scottish soil.
"I've been told by my management that if I do get the Ramirez fight that it might happen in the UK," he explained.
"Some of those fights might happen in Scotland and I want to get that Easter Road fight or Tynecastle fight and I want to go up to [Edinburgh] Castle - on the esplanade in the summer, just before or after the Tattoo.
"I want to give the Scottish fans big fights. Obviously I want to go to America and see my name in bright lights at MGM or Madison Square Garden - every fighter dreams of that."
The undefeated fighter had recently teamed up with world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's former trainer Ben Davison until social distancing regulations put their training on hiatus.
"With Ben I'm learning different techniques - I'm getting more leverage on my left hand and my jab's a bit longer," added Taylor
"We're making leaps and bounds so it's just a shame we've not been able to put what I've been learning into practice.
"I don't think I'm going to see Ben for the foreseeable, so we're going to be starting again really once we get back to it."
