Galento vs Butterbean
Galento vs Butterbean
Both these guys are caricature's of their era. Galento probably has more legit boxing skill while Butterbeans got one punch knockout power.
Two Ton lost to Louis on a stoppage. This makes me think that if he could hang with the Brown Bomber, Butterbean better bring something more to the table.
I think Tony Galento wins

Yep a mismatch for sure.....Is it just me or does Galento look just a bit like Edward G Robinson?

A big-time mismatch! Galento was a top heavyweight for real who had real one-punch heavyweight power! Butterbean was nothing but a side-show act that could, most of the time, knockout very, very low quality opposition! Galento knocks Butterbean out very quick and in a very ruthless fashion! It’s not that Galento was the greatest, or even close to it, it’s just that Butterbean is no where near Galento’s league, except maybe in appetite and looks!

There is no probably about it. Galento was light years above Esch in talent. Esch goes out in 20 seconds.Kid Skid wrote:Both these guys are caricature's of their era. Galento probably has more legit boxing skill while Butterbeans got one punch knockout power.

Against Louis, Esch goes out even quicker.

based on the fact butterbean did not knock him down, it was a slipDecagon wrote:You scored the 10th for Holmes?!?!? Based on what?silkov wrote:Well I certainly didnt see butter winning any of the rounds against Holmes.... Holmes could beat butter when he's 70... I doubt that he even bothered to train much for it....

Tony Galento wins rather easily in this match up. From round one onward Galento would have head butted, elbowed, low blowed, and street fought his way to victory.
Galento had more skills, but he was just in general a very tough man and a street fighter from New Jersey. His skills sure as hell weren't evident in the Nova fight---it was a massacre from round one til the 14th.
Galento was the type of fighter where he would use every advantage and means to win and destroy his opponent.
Whether that be psychological where he called up Joe Louis all hours of the night so he would be pissed off and forget to use his skills---or use every dirty trick in the book to clobber his opponent.
Butterbean in his early career threw everything he had in the first round and run out of gas. Butterbean throughout the years has improved his skills...BUT not the level of his competition. No fighter can improve doing that.
Esch I believe is better than some think, but he is certainly not world class. Galento was.
KO or TKO in 3 rounds.

Anyone ever see the episode of Rocky Marciano's show when Jackie Gleason was the guest star? Gleason told a story about one of the shows he was doin in New York. During the show there was a fat pudjey man throwing insults at Gleason and ruining his show. Gleason then stopped and said "Alright you fat bald little asshole, Why don't we step outside?" So gleason meet with this man in the street . He walked up to the fat bald guy and started to say " What the hell is your problem" and thats the last thing he rememberd. Gleason woke up the next day in the hospital. A friend of Gleason's was at his bedside and said "Do u know who that was? It was Two Ton Tony Galento." Gleason then replied "Why didn't you tell me? I never would have challenged him."
