He was like a poor man's version of the young, more reckless Pac. He had nice speed and stamina, and obviously some pop (though it was already showing its limits once his opposition improved), but he had a lot of rough spots and would have to have shown whole new levels to be more than simply a good titlist---to be fair, that does happen sometimes.

His fight vs that Panamian guy was really good and easily the best of his career--he really had to go to the brink in that one IIRC but he showed good juice late

I thought he looked pretty amateurish in the clips I saw of him before his fight with Demarco. In fact, I thought he was complete hype. His hands were low, his chin was up, and he was often off balance after loading up on big shots which often missed.

However, when it came time to step up a bit and take on Demarco, he was much, much better; to the point of almost looking like a different fighter. So, I had to conclude that he could be far more disciplined when he wanted/needed to be.

Thus, I had to update my opinion of him to....we'll never know. :OhYes:

I think he was a ko waiting to happen. His power seemed legit, but he never really fought anyone to prove it elite. His chin was in the air like it was on a tee and is questionable as the relatively light punching mosquera had him in significant trouble. Obviously not a journeyman, but I think he would have been bronerish as to the level he could handle.

Agree, he could be a repeat belt holder and beat plenty of second rate contenders. A respectable career like that no doubt, but there would have to have been major improvement to go beyond. He had a lot in terms of raw talent, but was very raw in other respects

Overrated IMO. He had some good raw talent and hit hard but he was very flawed and in my opinion was not destined for anything overly special. Maybe somewhere around Maidana's level? A good fighter capable of big moments here and there but flawed and likely to lose to a number of different styles/opponents.

I enjoyed watching him because he hit hard, but, like a lot of beltholders, he was a product of selective matchmaking and there being 4-6 "titles" to win in every division. Really hard to judge because his competition was generally pretty meh, so we don't know how good ... or bad, he was
