The fighters disagree. I know a lot of people, myself included, that wish I could get to work.jujigatame wrote: ↑06 Apr 2020, 18:55 This is so stupid. Just postpone the original fight 3 months like every other sporting event under the sun.

Re: MMA
Agreed, businesswise I wonder if it wouldn't be even more lucrative to put it on ESPN. They're televising athletes playing video games. They could get big sponsor money and millions of new fans. Every sports fan would watch it. Money is tight and uncertain for a lot of people.
Re: MMA
Yep, the people unsure where or when their next paycheck is coming likely won't be spending money on a PPV, but if it were on ESPN it'd do unbelievable numbers right now as there's absolutely no competition to it in the sports world.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑06 Apr 2020, 19:13Agreed, businesswise I wonder if it wouldn't be even more lucrative to put it on ESPN. This is why I hoped Conor will fill in because his name recognition would ensure everyone would be watching with nothing else going on in sports. This is more of a fight fan's fight, but it's still good news as I'm tired of watching replays of old fights.

I wonder how it works monetarily when a UFC card is aired on the original ESPN broadcast. In an event like this I'm sure Dana would ensure some type of ppv model would be in place. It would have to come from ESPN in this case depending on how many tune in I suppose.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑06 Apr 2020, 19:13Agreed, businesswise I wonder if it wouldn't be even more lucrative to put it on ESPN. Re: MMA
I hope Saad is right, it would certainly make sense if they could find the sponsorship. I must admit I just assumed it was Ppv, and given the economic climate I was hoping it would be heavily discounted. Never been a huge fan of Dana, but I can't deny he is a shrewd businessman and very good at what he does.Impractical Poster wrote: ↑06 Apr 2020, 20:33I wonder how it works monetarily when a UFC card is aired on the original ESPN broadcast. Anyone can watch Ngannou vs Rozenstruik heavyweight bout on ESPN, on the prelim portion of the card w/o purchasing the PPV. Rozenstruik actually called out Ngannou, something that nobody else in this world would do haha.

Don't know all the logistics but ESPN paid 1.5 billion over several years for just fight nights. Can you imagine how many new fans they could get showing scarface/gaithjie fights on a loop all day?Impractical Poster wrote: ↑06 Apr 2020, 20:33I wonder how it works monetarily when a UFC card is aired on the original ESPN broadcast. A private island, is only stage one to world domination my friend.... soon there will be many man made islands, like China in the South Sea... only the best fighters will be recruited and bred to create a super army.... our foes have no idea what awaits themOnetimeonly wrote: ↑07 Apr 2020, 02:58Evil? I don't know if they are doing this already because I don't watch ESPN normally, but it would be advantageous for the UFC to release some of their older cards from Fight Pass to ESPN and allow them to run them periodically.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑07 Apr 2020, 02:57Don't know all the logistics but ESPN paid 1.5 billion over several years for just fight nights. According to one outlet, it looks like 249 will be on ESPN+ PPV. But I agree with you, it seems it would be better on the regular broadcast. I suspect ESPN will be promoting this every commercial break once everything is in place. So it will still get more views than normal. ESPN and UFC would be wise to quickly put together an appetizing countdown for this.

I took a ferry to Epstein island when it was just saint John. Evil is an individual choice.
Re: MMA
Yes mate, when the news broke of Dana looking to purchase a private island to let the show roll on, i thought the brilliance and audacity was somewhat reminiscent of a Bond or comic book super villain, which is maybe the term i should have phrased in the first place. The Epstein island crack was obviously tongue'n'cheek, as was the comment about the fight taking place in International waters..... which turned out closer to the mark than I would have imagined.
Now you are obviously an astute guy, that also loves the odd wind up. Wouldnt mind hearing your thought on the main event, as id be surprised if you had a particular horse in that race. Then again.....

Spot on, my man love for both is equal.. won't know whom I'm cheering for until it starts. If Justin would just use his wrestling after he crushes legs I'd pick him, but blindly sticking your chin in front of scarface is suicide. Montana ko 2

Now the rumor is Rose Namajunas is out, and Ngannou's bout may be elevated to the co-main event as a result.
