Fair point. By the time you stripped away everything that caused him to get into trouble constantly, you’d have nothing left.mercman wrote: ↑11 Apr 2020, 13:06Among other things.
Thing is, it's not really worth engaging in a 'what if' where Sykes is concerned. People like him always end up in bother. Basically, he was a violent bully and a nutcase who caused mayhem wherever he went.
Sykes was a tremendous athlete and a real specimen in his prime but he was just a total loose canon. He didn't really have the discipline or commitment to back up his ability - and without that you're never going to be a champion.

Had to Google Paul Sykes as I admit I've never heard of him .
Some of the the other suggestions in "people also searched for " showed some other notorious hardmen of the past .
Some proper fearsome fellas there that you wouldn't want to cross. All of them looked like serious headcases .
Can't imagine what it must have been like ,living a lifestyle like that .
As hard as they were there must have always been someone that thought they could best them .

Wasn't he fond of the tightly clenched anuses of young offenders in jail though?
Re: Big John Fury called out
Imagine going to the pub and you see this bloke from behind who looks like your mate but it’s really Sykes. You get him in a headlock, ruffle his hair etc. Then to your horror, you see it’s actually Sykes. What would you do? Release the headlock and he’ll crack you one. So... don’t release it? Then what?! It wouldn’t be ideal.
Re: Big John Fury called out
And then he'd bum you and have his hillbilly yorkshire mates clapping n time to his giant balls slapping into your arse cheeks

I'd hope he was a really slow runnerNoxy wrote: ↑11 Apr 2020, 16:13 Imagine going to the pub and you see this bloke from behind who looks like your mate but it’s really Sykes. Ha, I’ve been in that sort of stupid situation on a night out more times than I’d like to admit. No point trying to keep the headlock on, it’ll get broken by him/his mates and you’ll be in for a proper kicking. Only way to deal with it is to play it for a laugh - release the headlock, immediately pass it off as a joke and offer the guy whatever he wants to drink pronto in the most nonchalant way possible. If you’re very lucky, he’ll take the drink and leave it at that. More likely, you’re getting your head bashed in. Character building, I hearNoxy wrote: ↑11 Apr 2020, 16:13 Imagine going to the pub and you see this bloke from behind who looks like your mate but it’s really Sykes. Those kind of characters have a very short shelf life these days, too many guns and knifes about and kids willing to use them.rd350lc wrote: ↑11 Apr 2020, 15:27 Had to Google Paul Sykes as I admit I've never heard of him .

Looks like this is on. This guy says that he worked doors within Lenny McLean and sparred him.

Re: Big John Fury called out
Has nobody told him his best friend got chinned loads of times by light heavyweights?
Re: Big John Fury called out
So he thinks that because 20 odd years ago he sparred a bouncer who was a useless boxer, it somehow makes him a good boxer today?
Re: Big John Fury called out
Hahahahahahaha class!
Re: Big John Fury called out
I can't wait for the weigh-in, The Fury family will be out in force, along with aload of bouncers n steroid types etc, bloody brilliant
