Ojay Abrahams - how is he travelling?

Post by polecateddy »

I wonder how he's going after 100 fights, having retired 12 years ago. He seemed happy to have wars rather than the usual cute journeyman keep of trouble style. He's 55 years old now, and I wonder if the fights have caught up with him or whether he's fine and training other fighters?

He went in with some good fighters but he usually got knocked out or stopped rather than take a sustained beating.

I remember him writing in to boxing news to defend fish eyes saying that he’d been laid enough to buy an Audi TT so lay off etc.

He lives in Watford, hopefully he paid his mortgage off before 2000.

He was good. I remember he knocked out Jim Webb, who was a decent fighter.

Didn't realize Fwank got his boxers involved in that as an extra revenue stream... fair play

Phone typo. Or Freudian slip, he did seem to fall over fairly easily sometimes.

Beat my mate Ian Cooper in a big shock in Barnsley. Cooper was a good fighter. Ref scored if over 8 and I remember it was Iain John Lewis. I think IJL was swayed by some racist shouts/chants from the NE fans that night and think he may have give it to Ojay because of that. He was a handful on his day though by Abrahams. Glad he is looking so well.

He was dangerous and think he was best at welterweight.

I was at the rematch against Wayne Alexander and all hell broke loose for that one :box:

Without checking his record I think he won a Southern Area title so was useful at the right weight on the domestic scene.

Was always writing in letters to BN  - seemed a fighter who could be 'up for it' and would give you a proper handful if he was - better than his record suggests - glad to hear he's in fine fettle! :TU:

The rematch with Alexander was a good one, he had him down twice. He also had Geoff McCreesh down. He had a handful of upset wins too - Dyer, McDonald, Webb. He was capable if in the right frame of mind.

I never quite understood the likes of him or Paul Wesley.

The way commentators didn't understand "Me, myself and I" baffled me slightly too.

I met him once, at ringside for a Hamed fight. He was referring to himself in the third person, trying to get in. "It's me, it's Ojay, innit". Didn't work.

Did he not post on here years ago? Did a thread where all hell brook loose then he tried to blame it on his daughter or something.

I can’t for the life of me remember what it was all about but it was around the time of his 100th fight.

The noise when it hit the mat on the Friday - that 'plomp' noise and you think 'great, something to read with a nice cup of tea and a whole pack of hob nobs' and half the time there would be a letter penned by Ojay Abrahams telling us why everyone is avoiding him!

Yes against Jamie Ambler.
Ambler was another one who was good on his day.
