Re: Devin Haney's tweet
TBH, I think he'd beat Loma. I get the sense that Loma's body is creaky at this point and that he's closer to being over than we suspect, along with 135 already not being his best weight. A guy like Haney is so much younger too, another few years and the difference could be big
I am curious though if Haney would consider it racist if Fury said he'd never let a black boi beat him

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
Loma being a guy who does what he does based on his speed, and excellent movement and footwork will definitely be a guy who hits the wall a little faster than other fighters.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 16:12 TBH, I think he'd beat Loma. Speed goes before anything in Boxing. He's had a shoulder injury, that's already hindered him a little, but if he ever has a major leg injury of any sort, you can stick a fork in him.
As it is, he should still be able to get Elite level performances out of his body and style for another couple years at least. Barring any further injury.

Wonder how much stick loma would have got if he had said that about black fighters
Re: Devin Haney's tweet
The days of black dominance in boxing ended when the ussr disbanded and travellers leaving the fields and halting sites and coming through the amateur system have also meant that honkeys are having a lot more success now than years gone by but some of our african american cousins are still looking at us like we're still curly haired milky white stiff part timers from the 70's.
Re: Devin Haney's tweet
A white person would have faced a ban of several years for similar comments.

A fcuking lot! That’s for sure he’d have been painted as some Nazi, it’s double standards, should be no place for it in boxing.Terminator666 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 17:36 Wonder how much stick loma would have got if he had said that about black fighters![]()

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
I remember this type of discussion from when hop said it
The other side to the coin was dudes saying , well, it's okay and not the same as whites dudes saying it because of 'historical inequality' and stuff like that, and that the dudes who care most about it are prob racists themselves.

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
Ya, because of the histories we gotta make sure blacks have the chance to even out the racism, am I right
Re: Devin Haney's tweet
Kovalev, who was probably a dick in multiple ways, flirted with monkey imagery for Adonis Stevenson and supposedly made disparaging comments about black people to the Russian media. I don't remember him being punished for it officially, although I remember some apologies: but his predominantly black team went behind his back to offer their services to Ward in how to beat him and when he got bollock punched to death they threw him under the bus saying he was "just a puncher" despite competing on a pretty even level with p4p Ward and even arguably beating SOG in the first fight. I'm sure his indiscretions didn't go unnoticed by the ref in the rematch either. So yeah, it didn't work out too well for him in the long run, did it?
Re: Devin Haney's tweet
I don't really care. They're hyping a fight. It's not as bad as talking about bodybags or eating children.

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
Can’t make him out as a bad man for his comments. His pals are probably all black and would give him proper stick for losing to a white boy, no real malice in saying it.
When I boxed a black kid I had me pals saying you can’t let no black boy beat ya (unfortunately he did
). No mean intention to it just how it is.

Yeah it’s not on IMO and people saying ohh it’s not so bad for black people to say it as white people are being very patronising to black people, that’s how I see it anyway.bripez wrote: ↑20 Apr 2020, 06:29I agree - imagine if some div like BJS said the same of a black boxer?Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 18:34

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
I guess certain boxers can get away with saying things like this up to a point- as someone else said, it would be different if BJS had said something similar
Re: Devin Haney's tweet
To be fair though we grew up with the black guy being the 'tough guy' in popular culture: look at the A team for example. Mr. T was the hard one. All those bollocks "hardman" biographies had at least one made up story about an imaginary seven foot black bloke that they'd bashed. Lenny McClean had some bullshit story like that in his rubbish book. When I worked as a psychiatric nurse and we used to do our control and restraint updates they'd always wheel out this study called something like "big, black and violent" about the death of Rocky Bennett, who died under restraint by nurses who weren't trained properly and the inherent perceived extra threat of an aggressive black patient; how they were statistically more likely to be restrained and more likely to end up transferred to secure units. There is this unconscious perception that black guys are tougher, reinforced by lots of things, which if you get out there a bit you realise is a bit of a myth, but still: losing to a white guy would I'm sure get you laughed at in an all black gym. It would be embarrassing in a different way I guess. When you all train together race really stops being an issue but yeah, it's just how it is that people think that way.
Oh yeah and edit: most of the staff where I worked were black and believed it too. They'd be alright if they had to deal with some lairy white lad, but shit the bed if some dreadlocked rasta schizophrenic flipped out.

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
I think in our modern society, for someone to get "banned" or whatever, usually you see a momentum of condemnation wider than the sport itself. Eg, the media, politicians and celebrities standing up to be counted. This creates pressure and momentum. Without wanting to be too controversial I think the media, politicians and celebrities can, in the main, be quite selective about what horses they want to be seen to be backing. As far as I can see nobody of note has stood up and called for action against Haney. I do think if (for example) BJS had come out and said this (in reverse), it would be quite different. It will pass, and nothing will be done.

Re: Devin Haney's tweet
What's history of the races got to do with it. Loma is eastern European, Ukrainian. What historical persecution have they put on black Americans?
Re: Devin Haney's tweet
I never said I thought Haney should be suspended and I never said Loma should be suspended if he said the same thing. I just opined on the fact that the standards are different the way they are.watsupdoc87 wrote: ↑20 Apr 2020, 13:22What's history of the races got to do with it. Loma is eastern European, Ukrainian.
