Great Fights: Recommendations.

Post by oogiebe »

Onetimeonly recommended Davila/Duarte II. An incredible fight. Not a fight that was on my watch list. Loved Davila/Pintor, because I was a Lupe fan. Another great fight, but this one was non-stop action from the opening bell.

Thought Davila was on his way to a victory after three, but things began to really get heated up in the fourth with Duarte landing combinations and Davila returning fire.

Davila suffered a horrible cut on this left eye and though I had him ahead by three points, it was stopped in the 10th. Left me wanting more. Great jab work; combination punching and sheer grit from both fighters.

The fight could've been held in a six foot ring.

There was some controversy over the TKO as the cut may have been caused by an accidental butt. Really fun watch!

Vinny Madalone vs Brian Minto was just a fun heavyweight slugfest between two journeymen type guys.

Courtney Burton vs Ebo Elder

Rafael Marquez vs Tim Austin, Round 8 is spectacular, but rounds 1-7 is boring as shit. It's actually memorable to me for that reason. Boring, boring, boring then Round of the Year out of the f*cking blue  , You should watch just Round 8 if nothing else. It was awesome.

Joel Casamayor vs Michael Katsidis

Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Torres

Bobby Chacon vs Rafael "Bazooka" Limon IV - 1982 Fight of the Year

Matthew Franklin (Saad Muhammad) vs Richie Kates

Bill Lee vs Lo Cicero (I've actually forgotten Lo Cicero's first name, but I'm sure you'd find it)

There was a 4 round fight between two novices that was sorta like a Lyle/Foreman war, but I can't recall the names.

If you can find it Chris McInerney vs Anterio Vines was a 4 round fight between 2 nobodies that never really amounted to nothing in a 4 rounder, but it was an amazing fight for what it was worth, and I've rewatched it at least a dozen times.

I think I'm in the mood to watch some of these I've never watched myself when I see some good recommendations.

Watch Chacon/Arguello. Chacon/Limon IV was a great fight. Knockdowns, cuts, and stretches of both guys in control.

How about just naming one at a time and why we should watch it. Try not to put in obvious fights.

Kendall Holt has another one of those. His fight with Thomas Davis was only 1 round, but it was a hell of a round.

If you need a brief description of some of the ones I mentioned here goes.

Cotto vs Ricardo Torres (if not for Castillo vs Corrales this is 2005 fight of the year)

Lee vs Lo Cicero (Foreman/Lyle with lesser known Middleweights)

Matthew Franklin vs Richie Kates - 4 round slugfest where the momentum swings back and forth and both guys get hurt a lot.

Teddy Reid vs Elio Ortiz was a more modern one of those.

Antwun Echols vs Charles Brewer is 3 rounds of mayhem.

Bobby Chacon vs Bazooka Limon is one of the greatest fights of all time. Picture Bowe/Holyfield 1, Round 10. Ok, now picture that round about 10 or 11 times in a single fight, and you got the idea.

Courtney Burton vs Ebo Elder was a truly dramatic, and amazing fight that just kinda gets forgotten because neither guy never got much further than the bottom half of the Top 10 at best, but they fought their hearts out here.

Any further recommendations from me I'll be sure to mention a why, along with the fight.

Charles Brewer vs Antwun Echolz - slugfest

Clifford Etienne vs Lawrence Clay - Bey - slugfest

Frankie Warren vs Micky Ward - 12 rounds a war

Frankie Warren vs Sammy Fuentes - 10 rounds a war and controversial decision

Tommy Ayers vs Luis Santana - 4 rounds but very fun.

I remember catching a UHF channel when I was in NY and catching Alfonso Zamora and Carlos Zarate. I was a Zamora fan and didn't know much about Zarate at the time, getting most of my knowledge from TV fights and Boxing Illustrated. I was shocked at hte result! More than the guy in the undies.

Yeah that moment when the guy jumps in the ring, and gets thrown out forcefully by the Police was one of the more "what the f*ck" moments in Boxing history

First time I saw Soo Hwan Hong was again on UHF TV getting Kayoed by Zamora in their rematch. This fight was recommended by two of our posters and it shows Hong's toughness coming back from 4 second round knockdowns to finish Carrasquilla in the third. The left from Carrasquilla on the first knockdown is sweet! To me a left to the liver was the start of the final knockout for Hong. Super exciting.

A great fight while it lasted. I love Zarate. Such a precise, technical power punching style. Since OP put a few Davila fights out there (he was an awesome fighter, beautiful to watch), I also put forward Zarate vs. Davila. You really can see how good both guys are in this one.

Ruben Olivares was about as exciting as a fighter could be and of course you've got the classics with Castillo, Arguello, the Chacon fights, the Rose destruction etc; but a fight few seem as familiar with, is in my opinion his most entertaining. The re-match with Kazuyoshi Kanazawa. I think it's every bit as good as Gomez-Pintor.
