I've got no idea, I just grabbed that from a Google search.Controversial wrote: ↑19 Apr 2020, 11:29Yes I think that’s what I read but I’ve heard other stories that Shiels just turned to god, not sure what is true
Re: Gary stretch
Davey Hunt chinning him is pretty much accepted as fact. Hunt's about 6'5" though, supposedly a decent boxer and a very nasty bloke. There's nothing 'plastic' about him. I wouldn't be surprised if Stretch didn't make the correct decision to 'stay down' in that instance.
Re: Gary stretch
I watched a Gary Stretch fight at York Hall on a cold January night in 1987. He stopped a fellow by the name of Winston Wray on cuts in two rounds and looked a great prospect at light-middleweight but seemingly threw it all away when he jumped up to middleweight for the shot at Chris Eubank. One more fight, a win over Steve Goodwin, and his career came to an end. The man was only 24.

Stretch was ahead on all the scorecards too before Eubank stopped him.bennie wrote: ↑20 Apr 2020, 07:17 I watched a Gary Stretch fight at York Hall on a cold January night in 1987. Re: Gary stretch
They showed him V Eubank on sky last night and he was every bit as bad as I recall - yes showing my age !
Re: Gary stretch
As has been said, he was a good prospect at LM.
Tall lad to stay in that division though.
