Canelo Expects To Retire at 36-Years-Old, 37 at The Max
Canelo Alvarez is regarded by many as the current face of boxing with four championships captured in four weight divisions, but even though the day of his retirement is still a long way off, the Mexican superstar has a rough idea as to what age he should retire.
One of Canelo's keys to staying at the very top and boasting just a single loss on his record, is to fully surrender himself to the gym with dedication.
"I always have discipline, work ethic, and dedication. The only thing that has changed are my successes, I train every day as if I was a rookie," said Canelo during an interview with Box Azteca.
The Mexican star added that while boxing is his greatest passion, this does not mean that he does not have a day in mind when he feels it's the right moment to hang up the gloves.
"Boxing is my life. My body asks me to fight. I keep training because I love boxing, I train whether I have a fight or not ... 36-years-old... for me that's a good time to retire, 37-years-old at the max," revealed Canelo, who turns 30 in July.
And what will the four division champion do after hanging up his gloves?
"I'll dedicate myself to my business and playing golf every day," Canelo said.
Regarding his next fight, Canelo indicates that he does not have the slightest idea about who he will face as soon as the coronavirus pandemic ends, but he added that it has been difficult to negotiate, since the opponents are always asking for a lot of money.
"To win a dollar they want to win 10. Instead of seeking glory, they are looking for money. I'm not saying it's wrong, but don't exaggerate your worth," said Canelo.

At least he’s set himself a realistic target retirement date.
The likes of Ray Leonard, Adrien Broner, Amir Khan, Billy Joe Saunders, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Tyson Fury, David Haye, George Foreman, Vitali Klitschko, Barry McGuigan and many others all vowed to retire by their early thirties or temporarily retired and then ended up making comebacks.

Yeh, this is a good age for Canelo. He only turns 30 this year, but has been doing this since he was 15 years old.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 05:09 At least he’s set himself a realistic target retirement date.

15 year veteran we can call him. I wouldn't say he's taking any beating, so the age of 36/37 sounds very respectable. He has enough wealth now to call it a day i'm sure.
By that time as well, he'll probably be on around 80 pro fights tbh. We're potentially talking 16 more fights.
Some will say he's already ducking 'TBA' in 18 years time.
Says after he retires, he's gonna focus on his business and play golf everyday. Imagine that, retire (most likely with everything in tact), and enjoy life with endless money.

Basically, he's going to complete his DAZN contract then retire. At the current pace it will take him to age 36/37.

There is no way he lasts till 36. He started early and is using his great chin taking some to land some.

I don't see why he couldn't last until 36, he probably starts to slip before then though.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 22:42 There is no way he lasts till 36. He started early and is using his great chin taking some to land some.

He could last, but he doesn't need to. So if he has brains, he will retire earlier.gilgamesh wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 22:54I don't see why he couldn't last until 36, he probably starts to slip before then though.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 22:42 There is no way he lasts till 36. He should be able to retire now if he wants to.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑23 Apr 2020, 00:37He could last, but he doesn't need to. So if he has brains, he will retire earlier.
Given that I'm not a fan of his I don't give a f*ck what he does personally. Retire now, or fight until he's 75, and lose 3 dozen times.
I really don't care.
It would be nice to see his career when he's not the Golden Boy with the deck stacked in his favor anymore.

But next he'll want to fight GGG whilst PED testing has been suspended due to unforseen circumstances.
Confident Canelo or suspicious Saul?
Either way GGG needs to think carefully before walking the wire.

Wouldn’t be surprising if DAZN folds within the next year, must have been losing money hand over first and now everyone who subscribed wants their money back.
Re: Canelo Expects To Retire at 36-Years-Old, 37 at The Max
If Golovkin fights him again, he's basically just accepting that it's all for the money. Which I wouldn't blame him for.Thomastearns wrote: ↑25 Apr 2020, 04:20

Yeah it wasn't a particularly good business model, and they WAY overpaid the people they signed.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑25 Apr 2020, 12:34Wouldn’t be surprising if DAZN folds within the next year, must have been losing money hand over first and now everyone who subscribed wants their money back.
Boxing promoters are gonna continue to suffer until they get what they pay these guys back down to Earth.

Yea cause Canelo really kicked the shit outta him the first 2 fights i doubt this one lasts 2 rounds.........gilgamesh wrote: ↑25 Apr 2020, 13:13If Golovkin fights him again, he's basically just accepting that it's all for the money. Re: Canelo Expects To Retire at 36-Years-Old, 37 at The Max
He certainly didn't, but it was proven that even if he wins he can't win so he's just willing to accept that he's going into a fight that's not on the level for the money.
Re: Canelo Expects To Retire at 36-Years-Old, 37 at The Max
I dont disagree with that i assumed you were saying GGG would take money knowing he'd get his ass beat because i see that sentiment all over. I had GGG winning first fight and a draw in 2nd. He has slowed down but Canelo style of fighting has slowed (strategy wise) where it lets GGG fight at a pace he likes. Derevyanchenko fought a fast pace that gave GGG trouble (i still scored it 114-113 GGG)

Canelo knows that's the right [declining] age to retire. He would probably have some easy money fights near to that ending point of his career.
Re: Canelo Expects To Retire at 36-Years-Old, 37 at The Max
Hell honestly, he's already made enough money that there's no real need to fight on even now. A few more years of 10 Million plus paydays every time he fights, and he should be more than set for life.apollo creed wrote: ↑26 Apr 2020, 06:45 Canelo knows that's the right [declining] age to retire. We don't know how much money he's spending. Money can go pretty fast if there is reckless, even the big fortunes. But yeah Canelo is a wealthy fighter, no doubt. I hope he's smart enough to keep his $ safe and not blow them.gilgamesh wrote: ↑26 Apr 2020, 20:19Hell honestly, he's already made enough money that there's no real need to fight on even now. I don't give a sh*t if he keeps his money or not personally. 2 gift decisions over one of my all time favorite fighters, makes him somebody I'm not particularly fond of.apollo creed wrote: ↑27 Apr 2020, 04:21We don't know how much money he's spending.
