What happened to undefeated heavyweight Trevor Bryan?

Post by Controversial »

Unbeaten in 20 with 14KOS but hasn't fought since 2018 since stopping BJ Flores. What happened to him?

Last I heard he was to fight Charr. But that was back in Feb. Seems like he's not wanting to risk losing before getting a big payday, but I don't see any payday happening for him. Not a very good fighter and never understood his lofty WBA designation. A Don King 'fighter.'

There are so many examples of undefeated HWs who just stop fighting I've lost count. I get the feeling we care more about their careers than they do.

I thought he’d have stepped in for Miller for the AJ fight what with his high ranking, undefeated record and been from New York.

I don't remember. Was he one of the names that was thrown around? I remember Hunter.

I remember one of the Sky lot saying they expected him to be announced. Think it was Nelson. Once Ortiz was out of the picture I think it was between Ruiz/Bryan/Hunter.

Ruiz, when motivated, is light years better than Bryan.

Trevor wasnt seriously considered don king just made sure he got his name in there

What is going on is the wba is stuck in another lawsuit with fres oquendo (last i knew) which is why hes still ranked and nothing is happening with bryan or charr

Of course, but it doesn't change opinions before the AJ fight.

He is WBA interim champ isnt he? and i think he has been waiting for his shot at charr. but then thats been going through the fress oquendo fuk around. utimently the fact that he hasn't fought waiting for that shot means he rates himself as C grade.

Im guessing his plan is, to fight char. hopefully win the WBA regular belt. then basicaly sell that belt to the highest bidding prospect/fringe contender. problem is im thinking Char is probly trying to skip that fight and just sell his belt to the highest bidder.

WBA reg belt is litteral trash, yet it still cause meham in the division.

It's possible I'm wrong but I don't believe Trevor Bryan was ever considered by Eddie Hearn. Once Miller was ruled out there were three names in the frame: Luis Ortiz, Andy Ruiz Jnr, and Michael Hunter.

I suspect Hunter was rejected in favour of Ruiz on the basis of an unfavourable risk/reward ratio (that's kudos not financial reward). Ironic huh? Of course that is speculation on my part - according to Eddie they chose Ruiz over Hunter because they knew Ruiz would provide a really tough test (how prophetic was that!)

That was after Ortiz refused the fight on the grounds of not wanting to accept a low-ball offer (only 16 times what he'd previously accepted to fight Wilder). Trevor Bryan was proposed by Don King but I think that was purely wishful thinking on their part.

Before Miiller blotted his copybook I highlighted on here, how he and former sparring partner Bryan were once regarded as equal prospects but how since then Big Baby had gone on to establish himself as a contender leaving Bryan eating dust. Miller was subsequently disgraced but Bryan's career remains on hold. As has been said it seems he doesn't want to risk his shot at Charr for the fake world title. It doesn't appear he rates himself any higher than we do.

Hunter was the preferred opponent because he was with matchroom. Joshua rejected that because his style is totally different than miller and he wanted to look good in his debut in the states.

After that rejection ortiz was made an offer he was advised to turn down. It fell to ruiz and history was made

As someone mentioned there are numerous Heavyweights who just stopped fighting when it appeared they were on the cusp or at least working there way into the mix of BIG fights. It appears Bryan is waiting for that magical WBA World title fight given he won the Interim (against Flores) or whatever it is the WBA decide to call it on there day.

He maybe waiting a while.

Another case is Eugene Hill. Hill now 42 and with a 34-2-0 record fought all journeyman including coming unstuck against Zack Page (who could actually fight a bit) and suffering his first loss. He did however win the rematch via Split Decision. He then went undefeated in 17 fights over a period of 10 years which included a 3 year hiatus before returning with a 34-1-0 record and losing to the 4-2-1 Hugo Trujillo. Unless he was packing out his homwtown venues and making decent $$ for knocking over journeyman OR he had a good backer looking after him I can;t imagine why (and Im sure they would have been offered) he never took a bigger fight/opportunity.
