Cuba isn’t part of America, it’s an independent country!
Cuban fighters aren't American, so they're out-of-scope of this thread! FFS!![]()

So you can dish out the insults, but you’re emotionally traumatised about someone exposing your “fornicating gormless opinion”, resulting in you inadvertently portraying yourself as a “cretin”?
Notice how your own words have backfired?
Cuba is not part America. A Cuban fighter is not American.
It’s a neighbouring independent country.
For instance: England is not part of France. An English fighter is not French.
The purpose of this thread is to discuss a specific country - not a continent.
When someone wants to discuss American fighters, only an imbecile would be “shocked to the core” about people not discussing Cubans (those that don't permanently reside on US shores).
It’s not complicated.
If someone wants to talk about Mexican fighters, would you be “shocked to the core” if people refrained from mentioning individuals from other South American countries?
Re: Wilder - was he the last Great Black Hope?
As much as I hate to side with someone who considers me of the fornicating gormless persuasion, he is technically correct because you don't need to be from the US to be an American, although someone from Canada would probably make a point of including the designation 'North' if he was going to describe himself in such terms. That's because he recognizes that calling yourself 'American' without preceding it with South, North or Central strongly suggests you are a subject of Uncle Sam.
Glad to be of service.

The Americas are a continent - Cuba is part of that continent - a Cuban can be called a Cuban and an American.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑24 Apr 2020, 11:48So you can dish out the insults, but you’re emotionally traumatised about someone exposing your “fornicating gormless opinion”, resulting in you inadvertently portraying yourself as a “cretin”?

If we are talking about the English - they can be described as English, British or European.
In Spanish - which is the vast majority of the continent they use the term estadiounidense because they think that 'American' is a more inclusive term than just for citizens of the United States.
Of course - you have every right to call yourself an American - but an Argentinian and a Cuban has that right too.
'Black Americans' can be Americans, Panamanians, Cubans - wherever on the continent they live.
There are atlases out there that you can read you know.

I don't know how geogrpahy is taught in the United States but I read somewhere they're taught that North and South America are different continents and that in Latin America - they're taught that it is one continent. Maybe it is that difference that comes to light, who knows.

Ask your Latino friends about the use of the term 'Americans/Americanos' if you hear a Latin Americans refer to someone from the United States - they will never use the term 'American' or call the country 'America'. we all say 'America' meaning the USA, I don't even think the other countries in 'the americas' are really in the discussion.
Of course, someone from the United States is an American too and are entitled to use that term to describe themselves - but a Cuban is an American too. What the unenlightened one is saying it is for exclusive use is just isn't true.

Just adding confusion to a an already confused thread. While technically it's North and South America, folks from the US aren't called United States-ans. We're Amercan. Canadians are from Canada. Cubans are from Cuba. Mexicans from Mexico. Let's all not give a fook about this nonsense anymore than it really matters, which is nill. Don't let EO get the best of you, mate! That's just not true - I think you're a swell guy and everything over on the OT but this is down to they way you're taught geography and the rest of the planet or most countries are taught geography - Americas is one continent - not two.
They are in the rest of the Americas apart from Canada and probably the English/French/Dutch speaking Caribbean.folks from the US aren't called United States-ans.
We're Amercan.
Chilean: Where are you from?
Yank: I am an American
Chilean: Really, so am I.
Happens all the time south of the border.
Yes, but they're Americans as well, if I am English, British and European - my geographical indentity isn't exclusive to one term and I am not arguing if you want to call yourselves Americans (especially in your own country...) then knock yourselves out - but the term isn't just exclusive to people from the United States - that's all I am saying and for him to say Cubans AREN'T Americans - thenCanadians are from Canada. Cubans are from Cuba. Mexicans from Mexico. Let's all not give a fook about this nonsense anymore than it really matters, which is nill. Don't let EO get the best of you, mate! Hmm. I dunno Carlos, I'm pretty sure they use the term American to describe a US citizen. Anyway, stop using my 'latino friends' in such a sarcastic way. I don't ask them any of that stuff if they don't volunteer it. They're UK Latinas anyway. They define themselves by country: Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Brazil.... I've never heard any of them say they were from 'the Americas'Carlos wrote: ↑24 Apr 2020, 21:15Ask your Latino friends about the use of the term 'Americans/Americanos' if you hear a Latin Americans refer to someone from the United States - they will never use the term 'American' or call the country 'America'. And I am not even going to say your friends do or they don't - but if they use the terms America/Americans for The United States/citizens of the United States then they're very very very rare - in fact I don't know anyone who I know who does that - here is the challenge to the whole boxrec forum who are Latin American or know about that culture, have family there or have knowledge on the this subject - what do Latin Americans in general called people from the United States or citizens of.
Now if people from the United States want to use that term for themselves then knock themselves out and they would be correct - but when they start claiming exclusivity and telling people who and who aren't 'American' then that's where the problems start. Cubans are Americans and I didn't even read the first damn post anyway, I just read the title and posted my thoughts. I am sure there will be more 'great black hopes' after Wilder and they will probably be Cuban.

By the way - on all official US websites, they NEVER EVER use the term American and ALWAYS use the term U.S citizen

Following are the basic requirements for becoming a member of the Coast Guard: You must be a U.S. citizen or a Resident Alien.

Black people live in other countries than the United States - and no, I didn't read the first post.
A person from Cuba is Cuban and is also American.
A person from the United States is also American.
No-one is stopping you calling yourselves American - rock on with it.
But you don't have exclusivity over it because the Americas is a continent.
