The topic of this thread is about fighters from the country America, but you didn’t bother to check this.
The topic is clear and it is

Wilder - was he the last Great Black Hope?

Where is the United States of America mentioned in that title
Hence the reason why you’re “shocked to the core” about no one mentioning Cubans.
To be honest, it was 'Steel City' and you posting so I ignored it
And guess what, a Cuban is from Cuba, they’re not American.
What continent is Cuba on - go on - tell me?
There’s no reason to be “shocked to the core” about people not discussing Cuban fighters if the topic of this thread was to discuss American fighters.
According to the title - it is about 'great black hopes' not 'great American hopes'

Are you this stupid in real life?

The person who created this thread wanted to discuss American fighters, individuals from the country of America, as per his initial post in this thread.

By your own admission, you didn’t even bother to check this, but others did, hence the reason why no one was moronic enough to mention any Cuban fighters.

And for some fùckīng bizarre reason, you claimed you were “shocked to the core” about no one discussing any Cubans.

If my belief about Cubans not being American is so unacceptable to you, then why did so many like-minded individuals also refrain from discussing Cubans in this thread?

Do you want to know the reason why? It’s because the country of Cuba is not part of the country of America.

Except he didn't say that in the title - where does he mention it? Unfortunatley, there are a fair few posters where I just skim through what they say in their posts.

I couldn't care less what you think, you probably have never left your trailer park :yay:

There is no such thing as a country called 'America'

There is a continent called the Americas

Your country is called the United States of America

Of course, you can call yourself Americans but you can call yourselves U.S Citizens, like your own government does in all its official forms - if you want to join the US Army (not the American Army you notice) they state you have to be a US Citizen and not an American citizen - I know - awkward isn't it? :yay:

USAF
USMC
US Coastguard etc etc

Not

American Air Force
American Marines
American Coastguard

https://constitution.congress.gov/const ... -4IbY_d5Wo

Even your own constitution is called the 'U.S Constitution'

Why is that I wonder? :-?

In my mind, the reason is obvious, because the topic is about Americans.

If everyone else believed that the country of Cuba is part of the US, then I’m pretty sure they would have mentioned Cuban fighters, but no one did.

And it’s because (in terms of modern day English language) a Cuban isn’t an American.

Because - according to the title - he was talking about 'black hopes' which Cuba has plenty of.

I don't read posts of the deranged because I don't like wasting seconds and brain cells - sorry

Now there we go - Cuba isn't PART of the US - I am glad we sorted that out - see how we can come to agreement when you use the right terminology.

That's because he recognizes that calling yourself 'American' without preceding it with South, North or Central strongly suggests you are a subject of Uncle Sam.

Glad to be of service.
The fückér wasn’t referring to people that have emigrated!

Have some pride and integrity man!

This bâstärd actually believes that you’re allowed to call yourself and American if you’re born, raised and permanently reside in Cuba!

We might not always see eye to eye, but you’re better than that!

Don’t agree with utter nonsense simply because you’re desperate for me to be proven wrong!

A Cuban isn’t an American! Cuba isn’t part of the country of America.

I can’t believe I’ve actually had to write that last sentence, but I guess certain boxing fans are utterly clueless about geography.

And let’s not forget that the man you’re defending claimed you personally had a “ fornicating gormless opinion”.
F*ck me where did that come from?

I have more time for you than I'd guess 99% of this forum do, but there is no denying the fact that you can be a complete arsehole at times. I am not remotely interested in proving you right or wrong. I don't share your obsession.

Surely it is not a mark of integrity to ignore the truth because it was spoken by someone who has made a disparaging remark about you, even directly never mind collectively.

The simple fact of the matter is that Cuba is of the Americas thus it's population are geographically american in the broad definition. I also acknowledged that when one simply refers to 'American' without any kind of pre-fix then it's going to be taken as referring to the United States. As a citizen of the Netherlands, do you get so irate about people who describe the entirety of the Netherlands as Holland?

As Will Shakespeare put it - "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"

Now I forgive you for impugning my integrity, even if you should know better, and I'll let you get on with the process of trying to alienate anyone who ever had a kind word for you.

I wasn't attacking or insulting you personally. Please read my words again.

I was actually criticising the guy whose stance you defended.

The man you’ve sided with openly admits to not understanding the topic of this thread, since he didn’t read its first post, hence the reason for him claiming he was “shocked to the core” about people not mentioning any Cubans, when everyone else was discussing Americans... or US citizens.

I do feel you know the difference between Cubans and Americans (since the thread topic was discussing a specific country not an entire continent), which compelled me to believe you took sides to prove me wrong rather than expressing an honest opinion.

You should be smart enough to appreciate the importance of context.

Anyway, if you've taken my comments the wrong way (more severe than my sentiments were intended), then all I can do is apologise.

One final note, let’s not forget that the man you’re defending claimed you personally had a “ fornicating gormless opinion”. :TU:

cs: Have some pride and integrity not a personal insult. If you say so.

I was actually criticising the guy whose stance you defended.

The man you’ve sided with openly admits to not understanding the topic of this thread, since he didn’t read its first post, hence the reason for him claiming he was “shocked to the core” about people not mentioning any Cubans, when everyone else was discussing Americans... or US citizens.

cs: I make no judgement about what people intended or understood. I merely pointed out the facts about Cuba's geography and grouping. I said he was technically correct which is hardly a glowing endorsement of his every word.

I do feel you know the difference between Cubans and Americans (since the thread topic was discussing countries not continents), which compelled me to believe you took sides to prove me wrong rather than expressing an honest opinion.

cs: I do know the difference and I speak as I find. I will not let my feelings toward any individual cause me to feign agreement or disagreement, although it may influence how gently or harshly I express my disagreement. It didn't compel you EO. You appear to be obsessed with the idea that you must never be wrong and that people are hell-bent on proving you wrong. Know this: I will agree with anyone I consider to be right. I will disagree with anybody I consider to be wrong. I may not always have the time, energy, or inclination to make an issue of it.

Anyway, if you've taken my comments the wrong way (more severe than my sentiments were intended), then all I can do is apologise.

cs: Apology accepted but you could answer my Holland question by way of atonement. I'm genuinely interested.

One final note, let’s not forget that the man you’re defending claimed you personally had a “ fornicating gormless opinion”. :TU:

cs: No he didn't. He made the comment about posters on current scene in general. I wasn't even offended because I don't need anyone's appraisal of my "gorm level" however I thought I'd chide him for his disrespect to the forum anyway, why the hell not. :D
My comments preceded 'cs' above.

Just adding confusion to a an already confused thread. While technically it's North and South America
That's just not true - I think you're a swell guy and everything over on the OT but this is down to they way you're taught geography and the rest of the planet or most countries are taught geography - Americas is one continent - not two.
folks from the US aren't called United States-ans.
They are in the rest of the Americas apart from Canada and probably the English/French/Dutch speaking Caribbean.

We're Amercan.

Chilean: Where are you from?

Yank: I am an American

Chilean: Really, so am I.

Happens all the time south of the border.
Canadians are from Canada. Cubans are from Cuba. Mexicans from Mexico. Let's all not give a fook about this nonsense anymore than it really matters, which is nill. Don't let EO get the best of you, mate! He can be rather maddening.
Yes, but they're Americans as well, if I am English, British and European - my geographical indentity isn't exclusive to one term and I am not arguing if you want to call yourselves Americans (especially in your own country...) then knock yourselves out - but the term isn't just exclusive to people from the United States - that's all I am saying and for him to say Cubans AREN'T Americans - then
I realize one is American from teh Americas. Just saying the US only has one term for us. American. Frankly, it's been entertaining seeing such an argument over this. EO sucked you in, my friend. Appreciate how others in the continents consider themselves. I'd have no idea of that. But your example of "Europeans" makes it more obvious that I should have realized that.

This one could run for a while.

There's a certain irony though in some people here from the USA getting antsy about other people from the Americas being described as American.

When many people in the USA consider themselves to also be Irish, Italian etc.

It's all a bit daft though isn't it, including the original question. There's almost guaranteed to be eminent American heavyweight in the future, its just a poor generation. Happens to many countries in lots of sports.

Let's not forget that Wilder is not actually finished yet. I know it only seems like 5 minutes ago he was stupidly saying he'd beat Mike Tyson at his best 😃 but that Fury wake up defeat was hardly career ending.

Hopefully he's been watching and rewatching that boxing lesson Fury gave him. Hopefully his power will have returned too - those punches he did land on Fury last time did nothing.

Finally, this time Fury has it all to lose. A situation the paranoia prone Fury hates more than any other.

If Wilder wins, that will no doubt inspire many of his countrymen to follow. As long the US remains the world capital of boxing it's unlikely to follow the example of US tennis, but it needs a Deontay Wilder win.

My final thoughts on this off-topic subject: Imagine if you will in the late 18th century instead of embarking on a collision course, the states of Prussia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire would merge. Gradually they would absorb Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Alsace-Lorraine, Luxembourg, Saxony, Bavaria and the other states that now make up modern Germany.

Unimaginatively, unhelpfully, and some might say arrogantly, they decide to name the new nation "The United States of Europe" and their citizens, not unreasonably would refer to themselves as "Europeans". In the following quarter-millennium the U.S.E. would emerge as an economic and military global super-power dominating the continent.

Fast-forward to 2020 there's a boxing enthusiast in Havana forcefully proclaiming the widely held view: "Don't be stupid. How can you say the Dutch are European? The Dutch are Dutch. Europeans are Europeans. Netherlands is Netherlands and Europe is Europe. Two totally separate things. Any fool knows that when you say Europe or European you are talking about the U.S.E."

Somehow EO I don't imagine that you would be too impressed. :D

Hell I don't hate him at all. I don't even dislike him. I am very well aware of his imperfections and occasionally I can find him annoying. Mostly though I smile and say to myelf - he's off on one again. I have frequently found EO's posts to be extremely informative and valuable. Not every poster has even one post to his name that I could say that about.

You mistake my motives. i was just making what I saw (and still see) as a very obvious point, not to discredit anyone or to score debating points. Three paragraphs is pretty standard for me. This is a forum where we communicate thoughts and ideas using the written word (ok typed) and if I found it tedious to type or to read I wouldn't even bother to participate.
