Nope, that's not it. Naz went off on Colin in front of media - it was on camera - and Colins gave as good as he got. It was Adam Smith who was upset by Naz, who acted like a total tosser all week because his half-witted brothers couldn't arrange a hard-on in a strip club, much less a world title fight after they froze out allegedly.

Naz apologised to Adam, and well he should have, and also Ian Darke about a month afterwards.

Thanks for the info!

I was told by someone who was 'there' - load of crap I take it!

As for Witter, Hatton rtobbed the british fight fans of a great match up, personally I will always remember the 10 years he ducked Witter with excuse after excuse, get a belt etc, he slagged me off - he bla bla bla!

Pacman paid him back.

But at least Hatton got paid.

I was there at the press conference when Naz suddenly set off at Colin. From memory, he was upset at something that had been used in the Sun but I think he'd already had a minor go at John Dillon, who was, I think, with the Mirror at the time. It was all dumb, angry, fairly juvenile stuff, and as Ant says, Colin dealt with it without getting excited.
More interesting to me was the training session at Bally's in the week of the fight. There was a foul-up over Naseem's US visa and he didn't get in until (from memory) the Monday. All the boxers had been allocated times - but Naz didn't apparently want to train at the time that was set aside, so the entourage walked in while some of the other fighters on the show were working out, effectively said Naz wanted the gym then - and they would have to come back later. People moved aside, agreed to go, including Vuyani Bungu... all except for one, who said no, he was finishing his workout and Naz would have to wait until he was done. It was Marco Antonio Barrera.

Are you that thick mate?

You think Hatton didn't avoid Witter because he fought PBF and Pacman. Could you think about your comments before posting mate. Cheers.
The very idea that Hatton was every afraid of that ladyboy lookalike is funny. Witter was a decent top 12/European level fighter for a couple of years, that's it. Just because he has a British passport doesn't mean he was ever entitled to a Hatton fight anymore than dozens of other also-rans... because an also ran is exactly what ladyboy was.
Tasteless Ant. And wrong. Hatton fought some lemons at the time a Witter fight would have been far more meaningful, profitable and fun to watch. It may be a faint one, but Witter will be a small asterix on Hatton's record forever. Like I say, faint. But its there. Hatton can blame America, the sanctioning bodies or Witter's remark at the Sports Personality Awards but ultimatley he had the power to make that fight and he didn't.

Colin Hart is a great journalist, as simple as that. It is his fault he lived through one of the most sensational periods in boxing history (certainly at heavy)? Harty saw the game then, and he sees the game now. We are living through the worst era in boxing history. Who are the real champions?

Agreed. Obviously PBF, Manny, Tszyu and Castillo were all more meaningful fights, but are we supposed to believe a Witter fight was worth less - both financially and in terms of recognition - than Oliveira, Urango or Lazcano? At the times those fights were made, I mean.

Nice.
It was obviously the beginning of the end for Naz in Atlantic City. His actions at the press conference and in the fight itself when he barked at Brendan Ingle to "back off" in the corner were the actions of a man who was completely lost in his own ego.

Urango was a fight chosen to please HBO, they had no interest in Hatton-Witter. The night he fought Lazcano he could probably have sold out that stadium by fighting me, the opponent didn't matter, I'd be surprised if more than a couple of thousand knew who the hell Lazcano was.

Personally if I'd been in Hattons shoes I'd have just chinned Witter on the night when he was hanging over Rickys shoulder like a vulture calling him out(think it was after the Thaxton fight or maybe Magee).

Lazcano was fine for that particular fight. I didn't have a problem with it and Hatton certainly could have gotten away with fighting a weaker opponent. It's just that Witter would have been better than Lazcano.

I also get the Urango justification, although the fight was ultimately a stinker (I know these things can't be predicted). Still, Urango was a virtual unknown on both sides of the Atlantic so I don't know why he brought more to the table than Witter.

I know this issue is flogging a dead horse, but I just wanted to agree with David about Witter being better than some of Hatton's acual opponents at certain times. I haven't even delved into the WBU run...

The Danish fella, Pederson. Should have been Harris or Spadafora I think?

Witter would have done it for peanuts.

hatton ducked witter for years, was scared to death of his counter-punching off the back foot.

i'm sure someone on here can remember which fight it was where hatton sat on the ring apron and announced he had signed a new contract with FW on the stipulation that Witter was going to be one of his next fights.

instead the WBU charade rolled on ...

I can't remember the fight but I remember the incident. Something like he wouldn't have re-signed with Warren if he didn't have it written into his contract that he'd fight Witter in the next 12 months.

Hatton was all set to face unbeaten Brazilian puncher Kelson Pinto in April 2004, only for Pinto to pull a mysterious no-show in the week of the fight. Hatton thus wore down and stopped Pedersen in six rounds before a crowd of 18,000.
By this time Witter had been dumped by Sports Network (allegedly) for pulling out of a showdown with the same Pinto in December 2003 a week before the fight, claiming a tendon injury to his right hand.
Who knows? Maybe Pinto was getting his own back.

Was supposed to have been Pinto. All the shenanigans around this fight was a big factor in Sky getting rid.

Harty in Boxing News again this week, crowing that he called Mayweather to beat Hatton. He’s hardly Jimmy the Greek is he as Floyd was an 8/15 favourite going into that fight. Colin picked Wilder to KO Fury in their rematch in Feb. Hindsight obviously a wonderful think. But it’s clear he never rated Hatton. Wonder if they had beef.

Colin Hart has always gone against the blue collar caucasian fighters, a jewish trait is Nero worshipping the black fighter, they absolutely hate alpha male white heterosexuals who happen to be the best heavyweights in the world! They belong in the media trying to warp and criticise what they cant do!

Agree ! Some real legends posted on this thread !

I just read a bit of it and remember Naz coming down to the peacock gym to train.

He was being an egotistical dick at the time and tried to rudely get some local guy to move off the bag he was working on, so that he could have the whole area for himself !

Guy basically told Naz to go f**k himself and carried on his workout! Was a classic !
