HIlmer Kenty

Post by Nile4000 »

It has been said that Kenty lost to Ray Leonard on a split decision and fought Aaron Pryor 9 times. Did he meet any other top boxer who turned out to be a good professional?

beat Roger Stafford in the semifinal at Pan-Am trials in 1975, but would later lose to Aaron Pryor (3-2) in the finals.

My name is Calvin McClinton. I was a teammate of Hilmer's since 1972 and personally witnessed virtually his entire amateur career. Our gym was located on the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Our coach was Bill Cummings Jr., founder of the legendary Ohio State Fair National championship tournament.

Continuing from previous post. Our gym was packed with future amateur and professional stars including Milton 'Pete' Seward, Jerry Page, Richard Rozelle and Forrest Winchester. Seward coincidently, fought Leonard at two national AAU tournaments. It would be easier to ask whom Hilmer didn't fight since he was a national prodigy being that he was a finalist at the 1972 U.S. Olympic Trials at age 16.
