5 star Gary Sykes

Post by The Young One »

Seen today that Gary Sykes is heading into a stint in rehab due to his battles with alcohol, hope he overcomes his demons. He's got a job lined up with a former sponsor when he does, so fingers crossed for the lad.

Remember reading a while ago he was battling with depression. Unfortunately it's quite common for alcohol issues to follow on from that. Hope he gets well soon.

I wish Gary all the best and hope he shows the same guts and determination to overcome his problems that he showed as a boxer in the ring.

He was a very good amateur and a cracking professional. Sykes figured in some memorable fights in stella career.

Good luck to him, having a job lined up is a really good thing, I've known some people who went into rehab and did well, but then couldn't get it going oncee they were out and went back to the stuff

More bad news, he was scheduled to enter the sporting chance clinch on 30th of March but it all went wrong and he's ended up assaulting a police officer, breaking their cheekbone in the process. He's posted on his Twitter account this morning.

He was posting some worrying videos a couple weeks ago, looked wired to the moon, hope he gets the help he needs, he always came across a top lad, just a shame he's broke a coppers jaw before he could be sectioned, the warning signs were all there

Very sad news for both him and the cop.

Thanks. Did Clev have a Charlie prob? I know he had alcohol problems.... funnily enough Cleverly was one I thought would be ok. He retired early, didn’t take too many punches he’s bright guy and never seemed nuts....

Also if Gary Sykes really battered a copper why is he at home? Was he nicked? Coppers don’t take to that kindly
Not sure about Clev mate but i remember them all talking about him having a maths degree when he was fighting so yeah, you'd have thought he would be set up. Obviously a bright boy.

I had a mate who leathered two police and got away with it. Over here they'll try n do you for police assault if you dirty their shoes while they are lifting you! Wankers!

Read about Gary the other day. I Remember reading that he was in a bad place a few weeks ago and it appears to have culminated in this. Wishing him all the best and that he can overcome his demons and get his life back on track.

A shame Sykes couldn't get into training because he's got bundles to offer with his experience and success he had in the sport.
