People who only saw La Rocca when he was getting blown out by a prime Curry would give him little chance vs Ayers, but Ayers was no prime Curry and La Rocca, for all his clowning, could fight some and was very quick. I can see La Rocca going down early, the fight being close for the most part, but Ayers eventually wearing him out and KOing him around 11.

Ayers winning most of his fights by early kayos .Two out of three his best wins Ayers won by early rounds - Finch by KO 2 and Luis Santana by TKO 4.Third of his main victories was a win by UD 10 above Roger Stafford. If i don't mistaken Tommy don't KO guys after 8 round.

So,i could see how prime Ayers methodically
destroys La Rocca by punches
the body and head and KO him in 6-8 round.

Possible. I didn't check Ayers record, I just remember seeing him fight three or four times and it wouldn't surprise me if La Rocca took him deeper.

I saw only 3 full fights - against Santana,Mitchem and McGirt and saw last two rounds against Starling.

Ayers was one of those really solid fighters from the 1980s who probably would have won a belt in our current era of 4-6 "world champions" per division
