BoxRec Hall of Fame Ballot May 2020
After a mere 8 years, it's time for another Hall of Fame Election. The deadline for submitting a ballot is Noon CDT on May 15, 2020. I will total the ballots after that.
A brief summary of the rules for this election:
-A voter can vote for up to 25 names. (If you vote for more than 25, your entire ballot doesn't count.)
-A fighter's last fight has to be before January 1, 2011 to be eligible.
-You can change your vote. Your last vote before the deadline will be the one counted.
-Candidates who are named on at least 75% of the ballots are elected. If no fighters receive enough votes, the fighter(s) with the most will be elected.
To vote, just list your selections on this thread. (Don't put them on the Hall of Fame Sticky or any other thread.)
It would be appreciated if you list your selections in alphabetical order.
It's a good idea to check every name that other voters have on their ballot. You may find someone that you overlooked and will want to change your ballot.
So far there had a been a good variety of fighters from different era's, weight classes, styles, etc. Hopefully that will continue.
Fighters already elected by Weight Class:

Re: BoxRec Hall of Fame Ballot May 2020
Glad to see you reviving this Alp.
Before I put up my own ballot, I'll stump for a couple of guys, one Alp already voted for - Pete "Kid" Herman, two time bantamweight champion in the 1910s and 1920s. He was always ranked among the top 5 bantamweights of all time on any of the old time lists of those things.
The other would be Pone Kingpetch, the first world champion from Thailand. He was the first fighter to win the world flyweight title 3 times (all three undisputed) back in the 1960s. And he has a record of 3-1 against fighters who are already in this hall of fame.

Re: BoxRec Hall of Fame Ballot May 2020
Kind of disappointing that more people aren't contributing here so far. To generate a little discussion I'll toss out a name I'm currently on the fence over - Ricardo Lopez.
On the plus side, I believe he has the best career winning percentage of any world champion with more than 50 fights at 51-0-1 (Jim Barry is also undefeated with 60 wins but has 9 or 10 draws). He also made something like 21 straight title defenses.
On the negative side, he spent most of his career at strawweight/minimumweight which is kind of a bogus division, though he at least won 3 of the 4 titles there. He also briefly held one of the light flyweight titles. But years ago those divisions didn't exist and he would have had to compete at flyweight in a tougher talent pool as smaller flys of the past, like Jimmy Wilde, had to do. So he should probably be rated a little behind those guys.
On the other, other hand though, he really passed the eye test and just looked like a great fighter when you saw him fight.
Anyone feel free to offer opinions. I can be swayed either way on this one.

I'm curious, why did you decide to include guys like Starling and Curry but not, say, Chavez or De La Hoya?Scypion wrote: ↑13 May 2020, 16:08I would like to revise this list if nobody minds. Here is the revised list:

There are probably plenty of boxers that belong in the HOF that have not been named. I named the ones I am most familiar with.
Have you made your picks?

Gatti? Really? I could go several hundred deep before getting to him. Maybe thousands.
Re: BoxRec Hall of Fame Ballot May 2020
He obviously had his drawbacks and his resume isn't stellar, but still it's Hall of Fame, it's also about an impact on the sport. Gatti had quite an amount of performances, which made him really famous, win or lose.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑15 May 2020, 10:51 Gatti? Really? I could go several hundred deep before getting to him. His fights were watched by less people than saw bozaedwards. Cornelius was also on another level.
