Felix Sturm gets three year jail sentence
Former WBA super middleweight and middleweight champion Felix Sturm (40-5-3) has been sentenced to three years in jail for tax evasion and attempted tax evasion, reports BILD.
However, the regional court in Cologne freed Sturm of some of the charges, but the case still involved one million euro.
The charges first involved a case for 5.8 million euro of tax evasion between 2008-2015.
Sturm, who is born and raised in German but of Bosnian descent, was also sentenced for a breach of the German doping legislation after testing positive (a complicated case due to some mistakes in the testing procedure) for stanozolol after the fight against Dmitri Chudinov in 2016.
He went into semi-retirement after that fight. Sturm returned to Germany for a planned comeback - but he was arrested and spent eight months in custody before being released just before Christmas last year.
The now 41-year old was one of the biggest stars in the "old" Universum stable but broke away in 2010 to form Sturm Box Promotion along with manager Roland Bebak and did very well for a couple of years but began to fade around 2012 and there were some controversial decisions in and out of the ropes - including the affair with a positive doping test involving Sam Soliman, who beat Sturm the first time around - and the doping case ended up in court and it took three years to resolve and Soliman was exonerated.

It was a huge robbery losing to Oscar.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:13Maybe that happened cuz he got robber himself?
Bit harsh that sentence though.
Storm beat him clearly

I had it 115-113 for Sturm so I did think he beat Oscartiny_acres wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:31It was a huge robbery losing to Oscar.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:13

Matthew Macklin beat him in Germany 116-112 I thought, but of course didn't get the nod.

He also got a gift vs Chud. and Macklin defo was hosed
Though I thought he beat Murray and that the Geale and the first Soliman fight were debatable. I was expecting him to get the decision in all of those. Of course he shouldve edged Oscar too.

Re: Felix Sturm gets three year jail sentence
I thought the draw was fair with Murray, and surprised by that. I assumed when it was scored a draw that Sturm probably should've lost wide or something, but it was a legit draw I thought.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:39 He also got a gift vs Chud. and Macklin defo was hosed

Re: Felix Sturm gets three year jail sentence
Macklin was robbed bad but Sturm didn't always get favorable treatment from the judges in Germany.
Murray, Geale and the first Soliman fight were all close fights that reasonably could have gone his way but the judges didn't give any of them to Sturm.
Sturm should have got the nod against Murray imo.
I haven't seen the first Griffin fight but my understanding is the draw was a fair decision in that one too.

The real crime is this guy making in excess of 5.8 million euroes during his career, shouldnt even have gotten a 100k.

Maybe judges' attitude depended on whether Bosnian mafia approached them successfully or not.Perseus wrote: ↑02 May 2020, 09:05 Macklin was robbed bad but Sturm didn't always get favorable treatment from the judges in Germany.

People like to claim Sturm ALWAYS had an advantage with judges in Germany. Actual results prove otherwise.

Re: Felix Sturm gets three year jail sentence
Remember watching the Macklin fight, one of the worst decisions I've seen, it wasn't even close and they didn't even give him a draw when they robbed him.
Re: Felix Sturm gets three year jail sentence
From memory the Murray fight was just after the Macklin fiasco and I got the impression it was very honest because of the fuss around the previous robberies.gilgamesh wrote: ↑01 May 2020, 16:59I thought the draw was fair with Murray, and surprised by that. Felix Sturm Appeals Portion of Conviction, Eyes Arthur Abraham
Former WBA middleweight and super middleweight champ Felix Sturm, who recently was sentenced to three years in jail for tax evasion and doping, has in part appealed the verdict.
Sturm denies the positive doping test but still can´t explain how the small amount of a forbidden substance - stanozolol - could have entered his body.
With respect to the unpaid taxes, Sturm admits he did wrong in 2008-09 - but feels the court is wrong in regards to the verdict for the tax charges for 2010. The charges were initially for tax evasion for ten million euro, then dropped to 5.8 million euro and now the number is down to one million euro.
Sturm spent eight months in custody during 2019.
Sturm is also rumored to be coming back to the ring and his targeted opponent, is the former IBF and WBO middleweight and super middleweight king Arthur Abraham, who recently had legal troubles of his own.
Abraham was caught by police in Berlin for driving without a license and excessive speeding. What made the case worse was that Abraham at first tried to place the blame on his brother.
And it´s not the first time Abraham´s driving has caught the attention of the police.

Re: Felix Sturm gets three year jail sentence
Really? Strum don't give a sh*t about going to jail and his talking about fighting a dirty bastard like Abraham?
Two a-holes fighting is always s good matchup.

Convicted of 1million euros in the end, they tried to have him for 5million euros but could only make 1 million Euro stick
Not sure how much he made per fight, but I know Darren Barker got £1m for fighting him in Germany

Why throw him in jail 3 years? Make him work and pay back the money. Seems counterintuitive but thats "justice" for you

I guess they want to make an example of him like they did with Uli Hoeness.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑18 May 2020, 10:52 Why throw him in jail 3 years? Make him work and pay back the money. Seems counterintuitive but thats "justice" for you
