Rank middleweight boxers

Post by Cent0089 »

Please guys, rank top middleweight boxers and post why

1. Saul Alvarez
In his last 2 fights, he looked unbeatable. Head and upper body movement on Mayweather level. Despite being superstar and have almost all Mexican fanbase on his side, his boxing style is definitely not mexican. Compossure, accuracy, inteligent counterpunching behind extraordinary defense. He is hard to hit and even if he fot hit, he can take it. His stamina is not problem anymore. Obviously he has a problem catching running oponents so 100% motivated Saunders can be problematic for Canelo but i still think he can handle him. Canelo is very fast and have some insane combinations, despite he is not doing that as often as in past fights.
But what make Canelo no.1 on my list is his improvement. He was taking a lot of hate for 1st GGG fight. Yes he lost it. But the way how he handled rematch with whole different approach is respectable. He defeat GGG in his own game. Close fight, yes, but Canelo looked good and he makes GGG looked not as good as in 1st fight. Plus his recent fights against Jacobs and Kovalev are proof he is best.

2. Gennady Golovkin
He was middleweight king for a long time. Looking back, he should have Quillin, Martinez, Sturm and other middleweights on his resume too. But this is boxing and shady games of promoters sadly. His most impressive performance was 1st fight against Alvarez. GGG has probably best jab in today boxing. Overall physical strength is factor that winning him fights too. GGG has very basic but very effective defense, he is very hard to being hit clean. Cutting off the ring is one of his best skills. Saunders, who can cause troubles to Canelo would be easy fight for GGG IMO. Golovkin can take some solid shots to the chin. But loss in second fight against Canelo is not reason why he is number 2. Reason for that are his last 2 fights. GGG is obviously past his prime Against Rolls and Derevyanchenko, he took CLEAN, head snapping shots. We never seen something like that in GGG fights. His reflexes is not there anymore. His career did not fulfill full potential, sadly, but is still very respectable. Hopefully he can do something meaningful in our sport before retirement.

3. Daniel Jacobs
Clear number 3 on the list. Despite loss to Alvarez, he has some impressive wins on records if you compare that with guys ranked 4 and lower. Sulecki, Derevyanchenko, he handled them in close, but clear fights. He gave Golovkin very tough fight. Demolition of Quillin is also underrated today. What impress me with Jacobs is what direction his career took. Remembering his KO loss to Dmitri Pirog i was thinking - another fake prospect was exposed, we saw that many many times. But he changed his style, becoming more physical and more tough. Despite being tall, Jacobs is not distance fighter. he has very good inside game, some fast combos. Ability to fight in orthodox and in southpaw need to be mentioned too.

4. Jermall Charlo
Charlo looked like beast against B class fighters. His fights against Trout and Korobov showed he is not that beast, despite handling victories over both fighters. His resume lacking some career defining fights, so wi will see. Charlos biggest strengths are powerful jab, accurate counterpunching and his physical presence. One punch KO power is here too. Cannot believe this guy was 154 punder, he is bigger than Hurd. Charlo is bit average in terms of speed, defense and footwork.

5. Billy Joe Saunders
Unconsistend fighter. He looked unbeatable against lemieux, but he also looked like B class boxer in many other fights. Motivation and training is factor for Saunders. He has some natural talent, he is fast with good footwork , missing more punching power. For now, Saunders looking like wasted talent for me.

6.Sergey Derevyanchenko
Derevyanchenko lost against Jacobs and faded GGG, despite he looked good in both fights. He is very entertaining to watch, has probably best stamina from the list. He is doing some textbook boxing, but nothing more. Despite being very strong, he has not a big punch. Showed good ring cutting against Jacobs but his offensive arsenal is not always effective. Excellent footwork, less excellent defense. Still, despite being 34 years old, there is some room for improvements. We will see.

7. Demetrius Andrade
Honestly, i did not watched this guy long enough to judge him as a fan. But i am going to put him on 7th place based on his poor resume.

Sorry for my poor english and i am curious on your list guys. WHen we had no fights in tv we sould at least discuss a bit :box: :box: :box:

Jacobs moved up. No argument otherwise.

1. Canelo - if he ever decides to cut again to 160 he should be number one. Phenomenal fighter. Mature, skilled, great defensive instincts and one of hardest chins in business right now. Should have been taken "0" from his record but it does not matter since GGG has slightly declinded since then.

2. GGG - slim victory over Derevyanchenko (hell of a fighter himself) has shown that although his chin is still titanium, he is not dominant anymore. Power is falling the last if any so GGG will be dangerous every second he is in the ring.

3. Andrade - I give him benefit of doubt knowing his so-so resume but even recently he beat Maciej Sulęcki with extremely dominant fashion and Sulecki to many was victorious against Daniel Jacobs. Slippery style, very unorthodox technique and I think he is THE most avoided guy in division because he is very risky to fight against and does not give you financial recompense. Basically hardly possible to find any weaknesses except of untested chin but his defensive style resembling videogame character from Prince of Persia is the reason he is not tested.

4. Charlo - better of Charlo bros. The walking answer for "how should very good MW boxer look like?". He is quick, skilled, agressive, good physique etc etc. But "good" is not "great" and he will never be. Neither Charlo has albeit one feature that is elite. Jack of all trades but master of none. Knowing his competition I cannot imagine him reigning the division.

5. Derevyanchenko - probably the "gate" to the belt. If you are able to beat this guy, you are special.
He was basically one knockdown away from beating Jacobs and GGG which is huge. Probalby will get his another shot at title though.

now a little gap and 6-10 is up to your morning mood. Since it is almost equal tier, my mood is to rate potential not current ability. This is why Murata and both Liams Smith and Williams has been excluded. Today.

6. Berlanga - what a talent. I absolutely love Berlanga. He seems to fight to kill not to win. Wish he would not wait too long because he has got essential fire to dethrone the top. Let it not go off...

7. Czerkaszyn - He did finish Pitto in a blink which was difficult task to many perspective fighters. He is still very raw and can be hit pretty easily but I see his potential. He loves boxing and embraces it from bottom to top. Still learning, searching for new skills and techniques. Great professional attitude and heartbreaking story of him coming to Poland from Ukraine just with his current coach address in his pocket - has fully bought me. Expect big from this guy, he has serious hammer in his fist - trust me.

8. Falcao - definetely had better expectations on him. Something is not clicking. He is full package but he is extremely predictable in his fights. Not many pace-changes, traps and tricks in his pocket. He has not been in trouble in any of his 26 fights yet but he has not impressed in even half of them as well. Cannot finish washed-up Guido Pitto...

9. Munguia - he should be higher based on money put on him and since he is Mexican he will get the shot the soonest. His bout against Hogan dissapointed me and since then I do not trust him. Still very raw, inconsistent and absolutely can be hit knowing his so-so defence. Super-welter was his max.

10. Eubank Jr - oh boy...frustrating. If he is not son of his father he would be higher. Shows signs of talent but mixes it with poor effort. Still has room to grow and saw him training with Roy Jones (old fella being more fluid than him FYI).

not a fan of new Uzbek guys that much(Islam, Alimkhanuly, Nursultanov). Fine but just fine.
