The cruiserweight division in boxing was introduced out of respect for the brave men who fought on battleships during the great war.
My great grandfather was a stoker on the HMS Lion at the Battle of Jutland and he won't be forgotten!
The second biggest in a fleet of battleships were called “cruisers"- and that's how the division got its name.

With the whole world on lockdown, questions have been coming in thick and fast and if the rumors are correct the sanctioning bodies in boxing may be looking to the sea once more to re-classify the Cruiserweight division by making it heavier!

If the rumors are correct the new Strike-weight Division/ Jr Cruiserweight will weigh in at around 200lbs, When asked to comment on how long boxing fans were going to have to wait for the news to be made official Teddy Atlas declined to comment but let's hope we see it happen soon because Teddy is highly respected in the UK and fans would love to see him ringside!

If your adding divisions around there id add 185 and keep 200. mabeyyyy change it to 190 and 210. The gap between light heavy and cruiser is horrific. There is no need for 225 in my opinion, That will just end up being 245lb guys cutting weight. AJ could cut water to 225 probably, He is not to small for heavyweight....

225 would either drain heavyweight division making it super super thin. or be a D grade division people dont care about and anyone good at 225lb div will fight heavyweight kinda like what happens a little bit at cruiser currently but it will be way way worse.

Boxing already has too many weight divisions.
Adding more is not the way to improve the sport.
Yet another division with 5 to 7 fighters holding world title belts will only give detractors more ammunition to ridicule boxing.

I didn't write if but I kinda agree with what these fellas are trying to do . Putting a weight above cruiserweight would make the history of the cruiser obsolete and I'm all for respect where it's due , my Grandfather fought in WW1 and I didn't know the history behind the weight until I found the article on reddit.
The weight difference nowadays between Heavy and cruiser is massive, some of these heavies are walking round at 20 stone so I think these fellas have a valid point .

I wish them all the best of luck, 225lbs might be a bit of a stretch but this has been a long time coming, certain weights i would agree don't need to be around but cruiserweight is real boxing history that needs to be preserved as the weight below the Heavies

I long ago quit fighting the Extra weight Division issue......but whatever they do, the highest weight needs to be heavyweight....not super heavy Or any other silly name....so, in a world of bad ideas...this is one of the least worst.

i think AJ could easy make 225lb class. He was 236 vs ruiz.. an 11lb water cut with that much muscel is absolutly nothing. there are People in the UFC that Cut from 210 to 185, just in water weight. a 225 class wold leave fury, Ruiz, and joyce as the only guys in heavyweight... Crazy talk.

UFC guys mostly have some sort of wrestling background where huge weight cuts are common place for teenagers. Not so much in boxing.

Yea AJ could potentially make 225 with a weight cut. It would just split the division with zero benefit.

There is a special aura to being the champ at Heavyweight or whatever term you would give the biggest weight division.

Guys that are on The edge Of the limit are not going to be exerting themselves to get Down to some lower weight limit if they think they can compete at the Highest division.
