To some degree, this has to do with there being 8 years since we did a vote. The big name guys over that period that became eligible got elected. Normally, there would not be so many of them to compete with.
Guess, it depends on what you consider an "Old Timer" . Patterson and Maxim got some some support with 5 votes.
Pre-World War II though, Pete Herman was the only one with 5 votes.

Congratulations to the fighters who were elected. Regarding old timers and lighter weight fighters, some of them probably did deserve more support. There are at least a couple of the pre-WWII fighters who, just on the merits, would certainly seem to have deserved induction. I think a lot of it comes down to many people just being less familiar with their careers than those of more contemporary fighters.

I'd like to suggest that in next year's election (and I think only doing this once a year going forward would be best) there should be a week or two devoted to debate before anyone is allowed to vote. Also perhaps it should be mandatory that anyone who wants to cast a ballot should first have to post at least once discussing the pros and cons of some of the fighters who received at least 2 votes in this year's election. Maybe that would help familiarize more voters with some of the lesser known boxers they hadn't considered.

Look at who was elected in previous years, then you'll instantly know why this vote was leaning toward more recent fighters.That had to come at some point when past votes already took so many old timers (and hence widdled down the quality of the available old timer pool to a greater extent).

To some degree that is true. Greb, Armstrong, etc are already in. However, there is still some great fighters from long ago that didn't even come close.
Not a big surprise. The very best from an era are often remembered. However, the guys just a little below them get forgotton. Some people have little interest before their own interest in the sport began.
One thing that we really don't know is what guys just missed being on someone's ballot.

Jimmy Leto and Frankie Burns each have 8 wins against Hall of Famers. They haven't made the Boxrec HOF or the IBHOF.
