Heavyweights: Evander Holyfield (1990-93) vs Lennox Lewis (1995-2000)
Both at their peaks. Those years were the best for both men. Who wins.
I would pick Holyfield by UD. Faster hands and feet, combination puncher, stamina, more will and determination and more of a voluminous puncher.

Still Lewis would win.

Holy for me in a close one.

Just to be non-committal. In a boring fight, Lewis by decision. In an exciting one, Holy by late stoppage or decision.

For once elmer is pretty accurate. These were definitely Holyfield's best years. Lewis is a little harder to say, but that isn't far off.
Anyway, Holyfield would probably win. If Lewis struggles that much against the version of Holyfield, he is very unlikely to beat Holyfield at his best.

Where exactly Lewis struggled much against Holyfield? In the shotout worthy first bout or in the second one, where Holyfield took a couple of rounds?Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑18 May 2020, 08:38 For once elmer is pretty accurate. Hope you aren't serious. Holyfield didn't do much in the first fight but it wasn't like Lewis was impressive at all.
Holyfield won two rounds in the 2nd fight? How many rounds did Lewis "win" with those pawing jabs? 10?

So, a total control in a fight against Holyfield isn't impressive, OK. Just a some ordinary thing probably...Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑19 May 2020, 19:42 Hope you aren't serious. Holyfield didn't do much in the first fight but it wasn't like Lewis was impressive at all.

The first fight was horrible. Lewis won because Holyfield didn't do anything.
Like many people, i had Holyfield winning the 2nd fight. Saying Holyfield won Two rounds is ridiculous. Flicking jabs with nothing on them isn't controlling a fight.

Controlling the fight? Well Holyfield didn't do anything in the first fight. Lewis did enough to deserve the decision, not much more.
In the 2nd fight I had Holyfield winning. Saying Lewis lost two rounds in the 2nd fight is ridiculous. Outside of flicking jabs with nothing on them, he did next to nothing. Your
that you love so much would hurt you more than the those jabs Lewis was throwing.

Re: Heavyweights: Evander Holyfield (1990-93) vs Lennox Lewis (1995-2000)
I have seen a lot of people who thought Holyfield won the 2nd fight. It's come up here several times. Never heard anyone say it was a lopsided fight or that Lewis only lost two rounds.
Re: Heavyweights: Evander Holyfield (1990-93) vs Lennox Lewis (1995-2000)
While I think the second fight was closer than the first, I thought Lewis won both. Not a squeeker either.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 15:04 I have seen a lot of people who thought Holyfield won the 2nd fight. It's come up here several times. Re: Heavyweights: Evander Holyfield (1990-93) vs Lennox Lewis (1995-2000)
A more prime Holy would be more aggressive and that might provide Lewis more openings for power shots. It would be more exciting, but I'd pick Lewis to stop Holy late.
Re: Heavyweights: Evander Holyfield (1990-93) vs Lennox Lewis (1995-2000)
I've said a couple, but actually I gave Holyfield not exactly two, but a bit more - three rounds. 6, 7, 12. Giving the fight to Holyfield is delusional. Lots of people gave it to Holy? I don't see it a problem, wackos are everywhere.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 15:04 I have seen a lot of people who thought Holyfield won the 2nd fight. It's come up here several times. Lewis clearly deserved both fights. It's only a tiny majority who had him losing the rematch and you can find these types for pretty much any fight (one of the guys cited who had it for Holy also had Pac beating Floyd), reality is most cards were like this

The boxing history oldies just love to be different, to feel smart and turn their noses at today's supposedly lowly fans, it's at the basis of their boxing fan identity. One of the funniest things was reading that Lewis lost because he did nothing.....um, as if Holy was doing any more

That looks fair. The overall score shows Holy winning only 6, 7, 12, exactly as I scored it.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 15:38 Lewis clearly deserved both fights. It's only a tiny majority who had him losing the rematch, reality is most cards were like this

Look at the scorecards thread, a couple of weeks earlier I posted the same score, that I eventually revealed here. "Couple" just meant "a few". So, don't try to be a smart-aleck here, better go and try to score more fights in order to stop producing bullshit, like "Holyfield won Lewis", maybe you'll finally learn something about boxing (damn, of course, you won'tAmbling Alp II wrote: ↑21 May 2020, 08:42Earlier you said you Holyfield winning two rounds.
