Spinks was great, an elite boxer, but as a career SMW/LH it'd be like prime Kovalev moving up and fighting at HW.

Is say some of Tyson's best wins were after prison. Beating the undefeated prospect Buster Mathis Jr and Frank Bruno both within 3 rounds. Much more impressive victories than points decisions over journeymen James Tillis and Mitch Green during his 'prime' of 86.

A team consisting of the tenth ranked British fighters at each of the eight classic weight classes in 1950 would come out on top against a team of the tenth ranked British fighters at those weights today.

For instance :

Stan Rowan, ranked tenth in Britain at featherweight in May 1950

Versus

Tyrone McCullagh, tenth ranked British featherweight today.

I feel that my view will not be that popular but I think it just the same

Kell Brook had the talent to become one of the greatest fighters Britains produced
Pascal is Froch's best win

I'll try think of more
Lenny Lewis is only 1-1 wth journeyman Rahman and 1-1 with limited Ollie McCall

Tyson Fury is better than peak Lenny Lewis

Chinny Joshua is running scared from Tyson Fury

Rocky Marciano was gifted the decision in the first fight against LaStarza

Marciano ducked Liston

Larry Holmes was robbed of equalling Maricano's record due to politricks

Calazghe used to cheat with his slapping technique using his wrists.

Canelo is gifted decisions due to him being a golden goose...

Why 10th rather than 1st ranked? Is your point that there was more strength in depth in 1950?

I'd say Tyson's best win was against Holmes. Would have he have beat Holmes if Holmes hadn't been inactive for 2 years and had more than a few weeks to train though?

Talent was there. Think his determination, love of the game, and possibly chin were limited.

Precisely. Strength in depth. I suspect first ranked today might come out on top against the class of 1950. Not certain about that but probably the case. They certainly would at heavyweight!

*Based on his Olympic Gold, Leon Spinks could have had a superb professional career IF he had his brother's discipline regarding drugs, alcohol, and training.

*While Ali was Great, he benefited by the absurd amount of holding in the 1970s. Holding isn't tolerated today. Jimmy Young benefited from this as well. I'm not saying the results would have been different, but it is possible.

*Jack Dempsey was the most overrated fighter of all time. He could punch, but how many great fighters did he beat? My mind also went blank.

Many opinions are based on fact old boy, the Lenny fans like to say he avenged all his defeats blah blah but when you point out that he is only one apiece with those two, they spit venom as if you have criticised the messiah himself.

McCall obviously isn't going to cry his way to a rubber match. Did I mention his "victory" over LL was stopped crookedly too early? Rahman didn't exactly light up the division after his KO loss to LL.

This one is fun. I will have a go:
1. Mercer beat Lennox
2. Hopkins beat Calzaghe (in an admitted stinker)
3. Ricky Hatton deserved the decision against Collazo
4. Sugar Ray Robinson was not the best ever, he lost too often, footage of him is grainy, etc
5. If Tommy Hearns had learned to pace his fights better he would be known as the best ever
6. Tyson Fury loses to Joshua, and also the rubber match with Wilder
7. Sugar Ray Leonard deserved the decision against Hagler
8. Hagler however was past his prime when he won the title. A prime, well managed and coached Hagler is the best
middleweight ever
9. Any version of SRL would have beaten Floyd Mayweather Junior
10. MMA has taught us that the world heavyweight boxing champion is not the baddest man on the planet.

5 . Hearns was holding his pace against Barkley fine in the first fight. Still lost. I'll just add I am a massive Hearns fan

I have to respectfully disagree about Robinson losing too often, all but 3 of his defeats came from 1955 onward when he was mid-30's or older. He also fought in an era when boxers fought more regularly so the chances of an off night were more likely, 2 of his bouts with LaMotta came 3 weeks apart, these days you're lucky if you can get 2 top contenders to face each other 3 months apart.

Robinson was an incredible 129-1 at one point, and even factoring the losses near the end of his career still ended with a 9-1 win/loss ratio. That's in an era where top fighters would face each other repeatedly too. I certainly can see an argument that someone else may be the p4p goat, but his record was awesome

Good point on Robinson going 129-1. Not a bad streak. As a WW in the 1940s he was GOAT. As a MW in the 1950s he was still quite excellent.

I thought Bradley beat Pac in their first fight. Only Tom Hauser and a couple judges agree with me.
