Leonard stops him, and he dominates along the way. Maybe, just maybe, in a 10 rounder, Pernell goes the route if he fights to survive and not to win.

Same. I think Leonard at WW puts Sweet Pea to bed around 10 or 11

As slick as Whitaker is,he's no match for Leonard ,who is just as fast, bigger much more powerful.

Whitaker can't hurt Leonard, but Leonard sure can knock him out.
Whitaker may do some slick moving at first but as the rounds mount,Leonard starts catching him more cleanly and starts to hurt him eventually catching him to the point of ko'ing him

It would be a tactical matchup, where Leonard would be an aggressor, while Whitaker would go utterly defensive. Both wouldn't hurt each other. Leonard would outwork and outpoint Whitaker.

It could gp either way. I don't think that neither fighter fought the type of caliber of the other.

Whitaker pts, he‘ll steal the rounds. Ray won’t make him engage enough. Whitaker was one serious cat, even if he didn’t always look it.

Whitaker not engaging enough is one reason he'd lose on points

Whitaker had an underrated body attack.

The old Leonard(as in old days not old physically) would make it happen. He was a special fighter that dug deep and had a great great chin.He was a cocky fighter that would press the attack. No way is Whitaker able to hurt him but Leonard could and would score a ko.

I see where you’re coming from there. The size works against Sweetpea. The cockiness means nothing though, Whitaker was just as cocky and fearless. The only one who really beat Whitaker was Trinidad at the end of his career. The point is Pernell wouldn’t play Leonard‘s game (as I said before) and it would be extremely hard for Ray or anyone else to change that.

At the same time Leonard could outwork him and take it on points. It’s a close one.

Why would he not engage? Leonard didn't throw more punches than Whitaker.

Someone said he wouldn't---I meant that if that was the case, it would contribute to him losing.

Oh, yeah, he was always there to engage for the first 11.
