Yeh. Was just the last round of Gass-Dorts which was good. I think most people in the UK were watching BrItish Beef! But that was so boring turned fully towards Gass-Dorts managing to catch the last few rounds.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 May 2020, 16:46 Jack Johnson is massively overrated
Dorticos-Gass wasn't that good as one guy could hardly land a clean punch (I thought Briedis-Usy was really good though)
I agree on Benny winning a title

When fans say:
“Huge (insert name) fan here, but he lost that fight.”
Or something along those line. Footy fans do it a lot too. Trying to not show bias or something?
Don’t need to mention ur a fan. Just give ur opinion ffs.

Agree, lot of the time they aren't even a fan anyway, they just say that to act like it gives them more credibility. It's like EO saying he's a GGG fanRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑22 May 2020, 15:11 When fans say:

Both were fought at a hectic pace, and he boxed beautiful in the Leonard fight, it was a combination of being caught and tiredness.dazzler wrote: ↑22 May 2020, 13:29What do you think about Leonard #1 and the Hagler fight?Old bones Ian wrote: ↑22 May 2020, 12:57
5 . Hearns was holding his pace against Barkley fine in the first fight. Still lost. I'll just add I am a massive Hearns fan
But Hearns also won quite a few distance fights and didn't tire so much when in control, Benitez, Sutherland, Minchillo as a light middle, Hill and Olajide, Kinchen even when hurt he controlled it.
So it may be that it took 2 ATG's to beat him in his prime, so the tiredness was more to do with what those 2 brought to the fight.

Seriously impressive performance but Spinks was never close to an elite level heavyweight and froze.

I'd say the ref was close to stopping Hagler with the cut over his eye, but for action I think Pryor vs Arguello 1 beats the Hagler/Hearns fightShhhh wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 03:28 Hagler Hearns is overrated as a fight. People always saying what a war it was and being most exiting fight ever... yet I don’t think it’s that great... they just swing for the fences, missing a lot - plus there isn’t that back and forth - Hagler was never hurt or in real danger of losing (the cut was the only question.) Hearns was basically outgunned and chin wasn’t good enough

Agree 100 percent, like 30 seconds of furious action, then Hagler just beating him up. No real momentum shifts or 2 way drama or comebacks, etc. Hagler was the boss and never looked like losing for most of it . It's a fight that people just reflexively call like the atg without actually breaking down whyShhhh wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 03:28 Hagler Hearns is overrated as a fight. Tommy had no legs for like 75 percent of the fight, it was strange how quick he went even accounting for Haggy being a beast

There are many versions about why Tommy didn't have his legs, he did too much roadwork, 7 miles a day instead of 5. He had a massage right before the fight and that took his legs away. He had been running in sand in training,.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 03:52Agree 100 percent, like 30 seconds of furious action, then Hagler just beating him up. I'm sure there's a few more, but end of it was probably that Hagler was hitting him

Ya, Hagler was a beast and would drain pretty much anyone, but even then it's shocking to me how fast Tommy went. Watching that alone you'd get the impression that he was much weaker than he actually was. Hagler very rarely took it out of guys so fast even at much lower levels.

I was too young to watch it live at the time, but watched it as a teenager after hearing so much about it. I do know what you mean, it was brilliant for the first couple of minutes, then Hagler was on top throughout. I was expecting a proper back and forth war, but it wasn’t like that at all. Still great pace though, don’t see many fights fought with that intensity.Shhhh wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 03:28 Hagler Hearns is overrated as a fight. Re: Unpopular opinions
One issue with that fight is that all the video I have ever seen of it is 1980s TV resolution and therefore really grainy. I have a Fabulous 4 DVD somewhere but even with that quality is rubbish. For example the commentator says Hagler is cut but you can´t see a thing. Would love to see it in true HD.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 04:13 Ya, Hagler was a beast and would drain pretty much anyone, but even then it's shocking to me how fast Tommy went. Tua/Ike lacked drama and has no replay value.

Does it have to be a boxing opinion?

I have a question mark over Chavez and the effect his punches had on opponents. Example. Chavez-Taylor the effect the punches had reminds me of Margarito-Cotto if you get my drift.
Pep was nowhere near as shot as people say when Saddler beat him. Saddler gets completely under-rated in the ATG feather lists due to the fact journalists at the time didn’t take to him. He was in the shadow of Archie Moore who was the star of the camp.
Hearns with a sturdy set of legs would of been the greatest ever.
Modern day British boxers are over-rated due to the Sky hype drive we’ve had over the last 20 years. We’ve had loads of ‘champions’ but very few of them go on to be number 1 in the division.
Stanley Ketchel is the most over-rated fighter ever. He was Nat Fleischers favourite fighter ever. The fact Nat had him at the top of so many lists and there isn’t much footage around combine to create the myth. I reckon he was a slightly better version of a David Lemieux. He had his ears boxed off a lot of the time, but granted he usually found the equaliser.
Joe Louis beating Schmelling is the greatest win ever due to the magnitude of the event.
I had De La Hoya nicking the Mayweather fight.
I had the first GGG-Canelo fight a draw and thought Canelo nicked the sequel.
Both Benn and Eubank would of beat Graham around the time of there first fight. Graham usually found a way to lose the big ones.

Don't think Chavez had anything going on with his hands, he was just a machine.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 11:45 I have a question mark over Chavez and the effect his punches had on opponents. Agree with modern day British boxers and the SKY hype, bit like there was no football before the Premiership, SKY say it's the greatest ever and do a disservice to the great teams that won the old 1st division.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as calling it excellent. Holmes was arguably on the slide and they were both close fights, Tangstad was Euro level at best and Cooney had been inactive.dr_devious wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 17:51
Spinks had an excellent short run at HW until he ran into prime Tyson, although yes he did freeze.

That first fight wasn't close at all. The second one was very close, though clear for Larry, he won the first 8 rounds. Odd the narrative on the first fight changing through the years. At the time of the fight, Larry was the only person I heard that thought he won the fightt.Controversial wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 18:05I'm not sure I'd go as far as calling it excellent. He is underrated at heavy if you look at all the love Tunney gets for beating the lesser Dempsey.

Chavez was just a great puncher, nothing suspicious. If that kind of thing was going on someone else would’ve mentioned it by now.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 11:45 I have a question mark over Chavez and the effect his punches had on opponents. I don’t know what fight you were watching I thought Floyd won handily.
I had the same scores for both GGG Canelo fights!
