David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
Boxing Scene
Olympic bronze medal winner David Price is not yet ready to call it a day.
Price has been out of the ring since suffering a stoppage loss at the hands of Derek Chisora. He took the fight on late notice and was stopped in four rounds at the O2 Arena in London.
It was the seventh loss for Price, and all seven of the big heavyweight's defeats have been by stoppage.
Price explains that there were a number of issues as he entered the fight with Chisora.
"About 11-12 days before the fight, I sprained my wrist in sparring, hitting the top of Dave Allen's head," Price told Sky Sports.
"I had to get an x-ray, go and sit at the hospital. I got stressed out. I was worried for the next couple of days, tired, moody and then I was under the weather and started picking up a cold."
He also blames himself for using the wrong tactics in the right, although he admits the come-forward style of Chisora would have been tough for him to overcome in any situation.
"My plan was to stay calm and not expend too much energy because I was coming in at short notice. I probably should have just gone hell for leather. Derek just closed the distance too quickly. I didn't have time to get ready. My legs weren't right. He kept catching me on the inside, wearing me down," Price said.
"Even with a full training camp and everything going well, it would have been really hard for me. They say styles make fights and Derek's style is difficult for me. He's got that low centre of gravity and just keeps coming, he's relentless."
And regarding the future, Price wants to rebuild his career and give things a final go. The hard punching heavyweight wants to go out on his own terms.
"I started boxing when I was fourteen. I turn thirty-seven next month. Boxing has given me everything. If I put the phone down and decide I'm not going to fight again, I'd be fine with that. The man I've become, the people I've met, winning an Olympic medal," Price said.
"But I brought myself into boxing. I had to wait in the cold for a 45-minute bus ride each way when I was a kid to get to box. No one's given it to me and I've earned the right to decide when I retire."

I admire Price's determination, perseverance and dedication to boxing. He's taking some real clumpings and refuses to be put off. That takes guts.
If he lands a few more paydays to secure his future and keeps his health intact then good luck to him.

I’m sure he must have Earned with Hearn these past few shows where he can at least invest..
One more KO loss and he’ll end up on a dementia ward.

He‘s right, he‘s a good bloke is Price. Best of luck to the geezer.
Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
I reckon he is a little gunshy and won't really commit to stepping in.

He was a dominant British and Commonwealth champ, hardly pathetic, he has just found his level.Shhhh wrote: ↑25 May 2020, 08:54So he just hangs back nervously doesnt commit.... and waits with trepidation for the other guy to knock him out? At least hed have a chance at winning if he tried to bomb out the other guy..... or maybe be more measured but at least throw some power punches? pro boxing clearly just isn't his game.... sorry but hes pathetic. At least chinny punches like julian Jackson go for it. Also he needs to be held accountable for making frank Maloney cut his wily off![]()
Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
He did Audley in a round, McDermott too, Sexton in 4 and Skelton in 2, dominant form. At the time these were the best of British.

Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
He says that Chisora was wrong for him because he's a come forward boxer, which is quite unlike all those Ali type boxers we have nowadays.......... Basically he wants to meet someone who stands off and doesn't punch back.
In his last fight the towel came in straight away, even his corner don't have confidence in him, I believe Price still looks good in training, he probably beats up a few sparring partners, but it all goes when he's in the ring for the real fight.

Didn’t him and Chisora get half a mil each for their fight? It was some crazy amountRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 May 2020, 07:45 I’m sure he must have Earned with Hearn these past few shows where he can at least invest..

BS watch IFL too!
Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
And Fury, AJ and Whyte hadn't emerged.
It's easy to say he is sh*t, but he can go to his grave as an ABA champ, commonwealth games champ, Olympic medalist, British and commonwealth pro champ, I would kill to be able to say that.
Furthermore he went out on his shield against the level above that and has lost to drug cheats in Teper and Thompson
Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
Some terrible posts in this thread.
Says a lot about the sport today when being British level is some kind of slur, the vast majority of people couldn’t even even get close to touching that level in 6 life times.
Good on Pricey, he’s always worth watching and clearly very determined.

Did they? They weren’t even the main event. Also Del thought he should be. That PPV flopped anyway.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑25 May 2020, 10:37Didn’t him and Chisora get half a mil each for their fight? Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
so let me pose a question ,
if Price is now only british level then how does he come out v Daniel Dubois ?
He is at that level based on his fights , of course he is expecting to go on to greater things .
Personally I see DDD would stop him sooner than Chisora did .
If I were paying for PPV then I dont want to see his name on the list !
So his big pay days are over for me .
He should never have fought chisora knowing that style is bad for him !

He’s found his level, but obviously he’s waaayy past his prime. A prime Price may have given DDD a good fight. Most younger/prospect boxers are never really gunshy.stevec@france wrote: ↑25 May 2020, 12:14 so let me pose a question ,

Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
It's not being disrespectful, I fully respect Price for what he's done with Olympics, British title etc. But I worry that his confidence is gone when he gets to the ring, when he was blasting through to British title he'd come out and let the shots go, but he doesn't now, and still runs out of steam.Delta Jay wrote: ↑25 May 2020, 11:44 Some terrible posts in this thread.

I can't see him giving Dubois or Joyce a problem, as he has already said he doesn't want come forward boxers, and they punch hard as well.
Its his choice to carry on, the English title is free, so maybe they could get him a go at that title.
Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
There does seem to be this attitude of putting boxers in the bin after a loss or two, which I don't go along with at all.
Fair enough if you genuinely think Price's health is an issue because he has been upended more than once or twice, but fans are generally very quick to close the book.
As with most instances in boxing it's about levels. Price is British and Commonwealth level, however, Joyce is practically hanging in world class right now and Dubois appears to have world class punch power so Price will get duffed up or blasted out if he goes up against either of these two, but if you drop the level to the Dave Allens of this world, Price wins with room to spare.

Don't think anybody ever denied him that.
Butch is right that people try to push guys out the door if they're not winning left and right, but ultimately if you can pass the physicals, and get the go ahead from Doctors. It's your life.

Price is still one of the fighers that brings me lots of interest if he is on the card. A chinny power puncher is always fun, they just need to match him well. Id like to see him vs some other older slower tall rangey fighters that are still just relevantish.
Id love to see price vs any combo of Breazeal, Helanious, Brown, Wach, washington, Zhang, Dimitrenko, Ustinov, Char.
They arnt top levle fights but there interesting and entertaining. much rather them than some 20-0 prospect vs a binman.

How about vs Nick Webb for English title. Probably win and get a knockout, but Webb is on a run of 3 wins so wouldn't be completely out of his depth.
Re: David Price: I've Earned The Right To Decide When I Retire!
His beatings have been brutal but the blighter deserves to get a few more crumbs of money for his retirement days. I think he'd make quite a good trainer.
