George Foreman did beat the count in ...
... Zaire and should have been allowed
to continue.
tell me why i'm wrong.
to continue.
tell me why i'm wrong.
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
He was done regardless, but the count was completed fairly. Foreman didn't put up any fuss...not one iota. So yeah, you're wrong this time.
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
Happens all the time. Guy beats the count, ref decides he's in no shape to continue and stops the fight.

Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
What count did the ref pick up on? Not what Sheridan said, but what the ref started at and how do we know. Cause Sherry starts yelling 3 when the ref really shoulda been on 4 or 5
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
Clayton counted to 10. The announcer counted 7 skipped a couple of beats and said 8. End of.
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
In real time GF went down @ 1:04 of this video. He was NOT up @ 1:14. What I'm not sure about is the voice that's counting Bob Sheridan or the timekeeper?
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
This was not scored a TKO. It was a KO. It was damn close, that's for sure.
Edit: GF beating the count is what was damn close.

That's Sheridan. Note that he starts at 3 when Foreman has been down for 4 or 5 seconds, and he bungles up a bit between 6 and 8. You can't see what count exactly the ref is at at each point, but he does wave it off pretty much at what should be the count of 10

Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
Sheridan considers this the biggest blunder hes ever made
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
Oh. Very interesting. I did not know Sheridan said that.
I do remember reading fans left the closed circuit theaters believing GF was up at 8 because of Bob.
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
That's the problem with commentators, they can influence you too much and make you believe something other than what you're seeing with your own eyes.

You're simply wrong because GF did not beat the count. His glove was on the canvas at the count of 10. Oogiebe and I put up the same video. Foreman went down @ 1:04. Look where he was @ 1:14. NOT up.
The count of 8 was announcer Bob. His count is as relevant as the guy's count next to you spilling his beer.

fighter has to beat the count,
not the time. the announcer
might got it wrong, but it is
definitely irrelevant how many

if you try to be clever, you failed.

Correct, man.

He did.

Correct, but GF didn't beat the timekeeper or real time. He just beat Mr. Sheridan's count, which doesn't matter.

Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
He appears to get up at about 9 and a half. I've never felt he should've continued though because he shows no interest or desire to want to.
He gets up. The referee waves it off, and rather than protesting or getting upset. He just walks to his corner, and accepts his defeat.
He was a beaten man.
If he had been allowed to continue he would've just taken more punishment and probably been KO'ed in the 9th instead of the 8th, but the fight was effectively over, and he was beaten.
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
Whether he did beat count or not, Big George was done, the ref was absolutely right to stop it then.
Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
Agree that the fight was over either way. I do believe though it was an official KO, not a TKO.gilgamesh wrote: ↑30 May 2020, 13:16He appears to get up at about 9 and a half. I've never felt he should've continued though because he shows no interest or desire to want to.

Re: George Foreman did beat the count in ...
i disagree. george would have
been kayoed anyways, but it
was the very end of the round,
he was the reigning champ +
he was in forward motion all
the fight and deserved given
the break to recover.
that’s all i am saying.

it been the other way round, ali
would have been given the chance
to recover during the break, but
it was evil george and that made
all the difference.

It was scored a KO, NOT a TKO. That is a fact. That is not debatable.
If some think GF was up at 9.3 seconds, or whatever fine. But it was scored a KO. Sheridans count is irrelevant.
It doesn't matter if GF was doing jumping jacks and double flips after he got up. He did NOT beat the 10 count by the official count. Period.
