Any boxers not wrap hands?

Post by Wales »

I’m sure I once read that Wladamir didn’t always wrap his hands for a fight, but having looked for where I read that recently, I can’t find it and now wonder whether I simply dreamt it up.

Does anyone know of any fighters who didn’t use wraps for fights?

I always presumed it was the fighters choice to wrap or not. If they chose to they must do so within the guidelines , and if not, we’ll, they don’t.

Shane Mosley wanted to fight without wraps but his people talked him out of it. It would be allowed-I discussed this issue with the NSAC years ago, but it would not be of any advantage to the man without the wraps-he'd break his hands if he didn't pull his shots a lot. Or, he would have to be very judicious in his punch output.

In the late 60's, Peter Porter tried it in Canada and found out fast that he had to pull his punches.

Ouch. I don't even use the heavy bag with at least some sort of wrap. Not just my hands, but my wrists would be ruined.

Would a flimsy wrist help add more snap to a shot?

When I boxed the hardest hitter at the gym was a skinny dude who when he shadow boxed had his wrists flopping everywhere, like he was a stereotypical gay guy or something. But when he hit a target at the end it was like an explosion
