JD Chapman ? Where? why?

Post by N2 Shape »

Im certain this has been answered here previously. However what ever happened to Heavyweight prospect JD Chapman 29-0-0. He’d rattled off some ok wins against lower level journeyman types and was in need of a breakthrough Win/fight but then nothing?

12 years ago was his last bout but he's still only 37. NO idea what kind of shape hes in but if he were to get in shape rattle off 3-4 wins at 32/33-0-0 surely theres a couple good money fights there for him?

Just thinking out loud

Boxing has a long list of guys like him who retired undefeated but never stepped up.

Kenny Klingman, Lee Canalito are 2 others.

I'm hoping that Stacy comes back to answer this.

When someone retires with a record like 23(21)-0, he knows his limitations from sparring.

He could have gotten a nice payday with Haye, but his ego didn't want to see his 0 go.

Had nothing to do with drugs, food, or ego.

He used to post on one of the boards I frequented and said he made more driving a truck than he made boxing. He was concerned about being healthy for his family later in life and he had been wanting out of the sport for a while before he officially called it quits.

I've got to respect that. Not enough guys make that decision when they should.

I think he made the right decision. Now he can go his whole life being an undefeated HW. Had Haye or someone else KO'd him, that money would be gone. He knew his limits.

Eh, I'd say ego is a huge part of it when he thinks his own health is more important than us getting to see him KO'd, very selfish man evidently :maybe:

Edward Gutierrez I thought should have gotten the decision over him in one of his fights. Chapman made the most of what he had to offer.

It was reported that his managers told him he had a USD 100,000 offer to fight Haye, to take place in a few weeks' time, and gave him 2 hours to decide whether or not to take it.

He refused, apparently believing his managers would be getting a bigger cut than he would, told them to piss off, and went back home. Apparently his contract was then sold on to Don King, but nothing further happened.
