Poll: Boxrec members, How old are you ?

Post by Boxtune »

I created this thread solely because of the below topic.
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=239987
Sonny Liston (1963) vs. current HWs ?

I was laughing my ass off, that so many members think
small midget slow Sonny Liston make top 1-3 in HW scene today

I think once very old age members memories of Liston goes R.I.P , Sony Liston hype will die along with them.

Agreed. Great tall fighters of recent years like lamon Brewster, sam peter, oleg maskaev, hasim rahman, andy ruiz, john ruiz, chris byrd, evander holyfield, Michael moorer, mike tyson, Alexander povetkin
....

They all tower over tiny liston

Sony Liston was 215Lbs still looked overweight ....But Holyfield at 215-218 has 32 inches waist and ripped to bone.
All above fighters you mentioned never shined and didn't last long, but got lucky in one or two fights only

Don't forget those monolithic giants Toney and Jones Jnr, who of course only hold victories over some on your list because of their gargantuan size advantage

Thats why most posters on that thread had liston in the top 10 and not number 1. Hed be a solid contender like those above not THE man.

Ali (in his prime) had been concerning size very similar to a current fighter - Usyk.
Of course, all of the listed big guys would destroy him.

I'm 32, but I see no reason why a great fighter from the past couldn't compete with Good fighters now.

A fighter like pulev has been top 10 for many years. someone who actually watches boxing cant see why liston could compete with pulev

6 foot 11 which is why he came up just short vs 7 foot valuev, the best fighter ever.

Every boxing fan knows the bigger you are the greater you are. Boxing has nothing to do with speed or skill, just bulk. If Sonny Liston in his prime hit Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua square in the mush, the punch would just bounce off their obviously superior chins.

In his defense, with COVID, it's much safer having fights decided by a tape measure, scale, and by date of birth. :o

What they don't get is that some people actually appreciate fighters before their time. They know that someone who fought 50 years before they were born might be better than someone recent.

Think about it. Even if someone on here was actually 80, they would have missed out on Joe Louis' prime. Yet somehow many in their 40s, 50s, 60s know Joe Louis was much better than anyone in the last 15 years. Amazing is it?

Oh get with the program Alp. All great heavyweights were born after 1980, >230 LBS, and have Instagram and twitter accounts. :shame:

Why didn't you include ages 10-15 so you could participate in your own poll?
