Pacquiao vs. Golovkin?

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Will Pacquiao beat Golovkin like he did De La Hoya?"

Manny Pacquiao is looking to become a NINE division world champion by fighting IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach wants him to fight Mikey Garcia, but he fears he’ll dare to be great and go after Golovkin.

“Manny wants to beat the best out there. I like that fight [Mikey Garcia]. But the thing is, Manny might wanna go a little bit higher and fight GGG or one of those guys who’s supposed to be the best. I would not advise him to go to 160lbs, no,” said Roach to DAZN.

Thoughts?

Well of course I’m up for writing another lengthy post about GGG, but in the meantime, it would be rather interesting to see you explain the reason why you keep giving him free passes when he’s been considered one of the top dogs at 160lbs since 2008, but has faced an astonishing amount of opponents that weren’t top-ten world-rated middleweights?

• Vanes Martirosyan
• Steve Rolls
• Kell Brook
• Dominic Wade
• Willie Monroe Jr.
• Osumanu Adama
• Curtis Stevens
• Nobuhiro Ishida
• Gabriel Rosado
• Makoto Fuchigami
• Lajuan Simon
• Kassim Ouma
• Nilson Julio Tapia
• Milton Nunez
• Mikhail Makarov
• John Anderson Carvalho de Souza
• Anthony Greenidge
• Javier Alberto Mamani
• Malik Dziarra
• Amar Amari

How many times has GGG Promotions, K2 or Universum submitted financial offers to marquee middleweight names that were ultimately rejected?

I can only hear crickets, rolling tumbleweeds, whistling wind and a lonely church bell.

Isn't Manny on Errol's list? Why would he pick GGG?

I didn’t see any of the other promotions making any offers to fight GGG by contacting K2 or GGG Promotions. Now that he’s clearly not at his best, they’re all after him. Makes sense. It works both ways. Most promoters are picking the boxers for their fighters (at the right time).

Basically this came from Freddie Roach just kinda casually mentioning it as an outside possibility.

I'll just say I'd be shocked if Pacquiao actually took this fight.

I had never heard of him prior to 2012 personally so he wasn't a top dog in 2008 that I'm aware of, and I'm very aware of Boxing's goings on.

I don't really get it why it is that you and Maggie have such a hard on for sh*tting on Golovkin.

He's only the most exciting fighter of the last 10 years. What an asshole.

You can raise it and re-raise it, but he outfought Canelo Alvarez at 35, and that alone is bigger than Wilder's whole career.

Why the fornicate would pac fight GGG when he as Spence and Crawford at 147.. if he managed to beat those 2 and somehow still looked fresh and golovkin aged 5 years in 12 months... mabey. But pac is a tiny welter... and way too small for 160
But if pac should go anywhere after he is done with welter it’s 140 to meet some of the 135 guys in the middle.
PAC vs loma 140, pac vs tank 140. Love to see them. Or speculating on what these young guys can get done in 2 years to earn this shot but pac vs Haney or Garcia or Lopez at 140 in a few years after they have grown there following and resume.

Nah it's not, though GGG's career rates higher, I agree on that.

GGG definitely arrived on the world scene in 2008, based on the ratings of the sport’s governing bodies.

I don’t dislike GGG, but his career has been mismanaged and poorly promoted.

I was aggressively criticised when I said this several years ago, but it seems that even Golovkin himself agrees with me.

GGG’s resume up until 2017 is very poor (in the context of his pound-for-pound status and his fans arguing his all time greatness).

My oh my, how times have changed! Now even Manny and Freddie are joining in with free publicity media mind games. Fake news indeed.

The only way, the only possible way this fight could be arranged would be as another one of those 12 round megafight pantomimes that we've witnessed recently. Manny's probably thinking since both Spence and Garcia made an easy flat $3 million just for starters, he'd be bound to do a lot better against the legendary Gennady Golovkin..

After Manny cruised to decent paydays in his last 2 outings (Broner and Thurman) he might also reckon that the publicity of gained by just mentioning his name with that of the greatest champion of our times can't possibly hurt him.

And it certainly hasn't.
