AJ and his boys should have been wearing face masks at least... but following The Cummings bollocks and the “let’s all head to the beach and sit next to each other” farce last week. The government can’t really say much as no one respects them anymore.

It looked like pretty much everyone in the London march were wearing masks to be fair.

I am of the opinion that anyone going out for non-essential things are insulting the NHS, regardless of what the government “rules” might be saying. The R rate is still high and people still dying in their hundreds every day.

That being said you can be sure some of the secret racists complaining about the Protest and lack of social distancing today were at the beach or the park sunning themselves last week.

Regarding George Floyd specifically, his past is Irrelevant. He was treated despicably by bully boy police who showed no regard for his life at all. Utterly disgraceful abuse of power.

Furthermore the subsequent reaction by the Police Department to act like nothing had happened, until it blew up globally on social media, further highlighted how little respect they have for life (and black life specifically).

There had already been a number of high profile incidents this year where the US police or ex police have got away with murdering innocent people or WOULD have got away without even being arrested if social media again hadn’t highlighted the injustice.

So it’s no surprise people are angry. It’s about the system and the George Floyd incident was the final straw that broke the camels back.

Sure there are a very very small minority of scum bags causing trouble at the protests but that’s the same as any event I have ever been to. Including many boxing shows

And of course there are plenty of good cops too who do amazing work but the racist cops just break the whole system. If people don’t trust the police then policing becomes much harder. It also gives the real criminals the chance to pull the race card .

Can’t agree with anyone who thought Floyd somehow ‘had it coming’ as he had a criminal past. Nobody who ain’t a nonce deserves to be choked to death over 9 minutes in the gutter, least of all by police who are meant to ‘serve and protect’ the public.

In America the system is designed to keep black people oppressed. It’s modern day Slavery. 5% of the population are American. Yet 25% of those in jail in the whole world are in jail in America. The big firms and corporations use the prisons and the prisoners for free labour, neatly bypassing the 13th Amendment.

7 year mandatory sentences for crack cocaine possession? And you do the 7 as well. Once you do jail you over there lose the right to vote, access social housing etc. You are basically ‘in the system’.

AJ’s support for BLM obviously means more to him than observing social distancing. Just as Dominic Cummings visit to Barnard Castle on his wife’s birthday did. The Government f**ked the job by not sacking Cummings for his CLEAR contempt of the rules. AJ may be flouting them but I’ve got no problem with anyone standing up for what they believe in.

If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

It’s something like 16% of the US population that’s Hispanic. They though make up roughly 20% of the US prison population. So that’s a pretty high figure and they have it pretty rough as obviously a lot live in poverty. However compare that to black people. Less than 15% of the US population are black but over 40% of the prison population is black.

The single biggest force behind the growth of the prison population has been the national "War on Drugs" over there.

Remember prisons in America are part of the economy now. It’s set up different over here (but we may be going that way). They have these Super Prisons in the US that they need to keep full and most are churning out free labour for these big corporations.

The ‘3 strikes and out’ rule brought in by Clinton was particularly damaging. Young lads getting fully lifed off for relatively minor stuff under the 3 strikes rule.

Very well said. This is an excellent post. While I completely agree with everything said here, the level of debate on this topic is very good in general particularly when it would have easy to fall to the lowest common denominator. There have been so many good points made that I haven’t thought about and I agree that some people have definitely used this to break the curfew. The police, for all their sins, are hardly going to hand out fixed penalty notices at an anti-racism rally.
