Greer vs Plania

Post by gilgamesh »

Solid card on ESPN so far.

Antonio Demarco jobbed in the opening bout losing a MD to Giovanni Santillan which most ringside observers felt he won.

A solid looking prospect named Nikoloz Sekhniashvili beating up a guy here in the 2nd bout on the card. He looks like a skilled, hard punching prospect. It's no comment on his power I don't believe that he didn't stop his opponent here. He landed some terrific, thudding shots, but the guy just hung in there and absorbed 'em.

Main Event should be a solid bout.

Couple pudgy Heavyweights with modest records in action now. Doubt we're looking at a future star here, but it's an even matchup on paper at least. I can dig it.

Perez winning all the rounds through 3. He's having some moments though where he comes close to getting clipped when they have wild exchanges, he got hit with a pretty solid overhand left to end the 3rd, but took it well. Overall though he's doing the better work, and landing the better punches with more consistency.

3-0 Perez

Funny moment on commentary as Andre said Torres looked tired, and Tim Bradley said "He been tired since the 1st round"

Perez takes the 6th round as well. Sloppy bout, they were both tired, and just glad to be done with it by the end you could tell. Nothing real special here. Perez the clear winner.

The Main Event could be a competitive bout. Apparently lots of late money is coming in on Plania in Vegas.

Might oughta tune in if you haven't already guys.

We got a guy right now Mominov fighting a journeyman, and showing a style reminiscent of Golovkin's. Apparently they had the same Amateur coach too. It shows.

Apparently Mominov helped Canelo train for Golovkin. Crazy.

Damn whoever matched this card found some rock hard B side fighters I'll tell ya. First we had the guy hanging in there with Niko and now Krael is taking some real heavy shots from Mominov, but hanging in there so far.

Not exactly competitive fights, but definitely learning fights for these young fighters who are being forced to go rounds against durable guys.

This fight is apparently playing out very similar to Mominov's last fight. Right down to the cut in the final round, and having a point deducted, and it's going the 6 round distance.

UD win for Mominov. Scorecards make it seem closer than it really was I think, but Krael held his own in there.

If you didn't know Plania before, you should now. He's shutting Greer the f*ck down, and just dropped him again.

Plania dominates Greer pretty much all the way. He took his fight off the gas at the end, but was so far ahead by then he had it won.

Dave Moretti inexcusably turned in a 94-94 card, but the other judges thankfully had Plania the winner.

I had him winning 98-90 losing only the final 2 rounds.

He took the last 2 rounds off, and just kinda coasted, but he had won pretty damn clear up to that point.

Nah, Greer actually went after him after the 2nd kd and from the 7th was beating him up in close and had him gassed and holding and running with body shots. Plania couldnt throw anything up close, only those winging shots when they were seperated. It's totally fair to give Greer the last 4 rounds, but he ran like the first 6 and so had no route to victory with the kds

Well that's what the official score was I think right 96-92, 97-91.

Right guy won. That's the key thing.

Actually Greer did pretty good, especially after second down. On the other hand, Plania is nothing special and he was still able to handle this fight. Inoue or Nery would eat these guys at breakfast. Oh and that pillow circus is so idiotic.

ESPN’s boxing viewership improved Tuesday night from its previous telecast, but it was lower than the amount of viewers who tuned in a week earlier for the first live boxing broadcast in the United States since March 13.

Nielsen Media Research revealed Wednesday that ESPN’s three-hour, 49-minute broadcast Tuesday night drew a peak audience of 503,000 toward the end of the main event, Mike Plania’s upset of Joshua Greer Jr. The entire telecast averaged 350,000 viewers.

That’s an increase from Thursday night’s ESPN show, which was watched by a peak audience of 392,000 and an average audience of 311,000. ESPN’s broadcast June 9, which featured unbeaten WBO featherweight champ Shakur Stevenson in a one-sided main event, produced the basic cable network’s largest viewership of three June shows thus far (peak: 609,000; average: 397,000).
