Eubank Sr at middleweight

This feature from early 1992 rates Eubank highly, mentioning his impressive stoppage of Hugo Corti, saying how Corti had knocked out the great Hugo Corro in Corro's big comeback, that Corro had knocked out Jorge Castro in the gym a week before.

They talk his performance against Benn, in which Benn couldn't land one punch in the opening round and Eubank landed many sharp combinations early. Benn looking more impressive against DeWitt and Barkley than any middleweight in the world they'd fought had. Scoring a heavy KD against Ray Leonard's protégé Dan Sherry with one jab in the first round which is a rarity, and Sherry running and fiddling the rest of the fight before faking injury.

They also suggest Eubank beat Michael Watson by nine rounds in their scoring at middleweight in one of the most skilful displays they've seen in a British ring.

That the come-from-behind win vs Watson in the rematch was akin to Marciano and Leonard-Hearns and the finishing punch akin to Jersey Joe Walcott's title-winning shot. Proving himself truly great having turned only 25 six weeks before and having not started til 16 in South Bronx. And landing a counter left uppercut from the outside against a tall southpaw (Freddie Roach-trained Gary Stretch, who'd been sparring Virgil Hill and Marlon Starling) with all his body to the chin which is a rarity to see (if ever).

How was good was Chris at 160lb and did he have potential to be the best of them all?

He didn’t win nine against Watson. I don’t think even he would claim that.

They didn't say nine rounds won, they said by nine points clear, meaning Eubank would've won maybe 10 rounds with one even and only one lost! I'd like to see what their card was! I thought he won the first five, the ninth and 11th and not enough clean work in the others personally, too tight/weak at weight

Though having said that Watson didn't land a clean scoring punch in the seventh, with Eubanks subtle head slips. The sixth, eighth and 12th are close due to Watson not really pressing enough TBF

Perfect foot movement and ring generalship against Benn and Watson at mw, that was the difference- watch both fights and watch all of their feet, Eubank makes them both appear plodding with his faster feet maneuvering around them and if they got close or caught up he'd simply counter with shorter shots than them from a standing position- hardly anyone can counter like Eubank did without moving or blocking, it takes incredible reflexes!

This is hilarious. Who wrote it? It reads like a bad Eubank press release.
Did they mention the rumour that on the day that Eubank faced Kid Milo, Milo is said to have eaten three shredded wheat! - though Eubank still beat him easily. Just a rumour mind.

Eubank tamed Benn in Brum and it was admittedly something of a masterclass and maybe his signature win.....

…..but Nigel largely masterminded his own downfall in their MW clash by being in a "red-mist" whole weeks before the fight and then repeating the same mistakes he'd made against Watson by failing to pace himself and not fully respecting his opponent's ability to defend themselves and crack him on the counter.

But the rest of Eubank at MW is a bit ho-hum for me.....Mike Watson was pretty much his equal in both their fights (across the weights) and Dan Sherry was frankly not-all-that despite his SLR connections and Stretch was a career light-middleweight who had not set the domestic division alight but actually did more than ok for far longer than anyone expected.

The fight with Stretch down at MW sort of set a bad precedent....Eubank up at SMW made heavy weather of smaller, less experienced guys or re-treads and either bored us to tears or had some close shaves entirely of his own making.
