Ugas is a decent fighter that is also affordable (especially in the context of crowdless bouts), so I don’t have too many complaints about this fight if it were to materialise, but I’m becoming rather frustrated about Bob Arum’s constant name dropping of the likes of Pacquiao, Thurman, Porter, Brook etc. as a ploy to keep Crawford in the media spotlight and remain relevant.
The next time we’ll see Crawford fight, he’ll be 33 years of age and more than three years would have transpired since his most recent noteworthy bout.
This might sound awful, but I really can’t help thinking that we’ll never see a prime version of Crawford facing any decent big names at 147lbs for the next couple of years, because of promotional/network politics, poor viewership figures and also the relatively small paydays his opponents’ typically receive.
He seems to be a long-term member of the “who needs you?” club.
Thoughts?
