Arthur Palac, Hamtramck, Michigan amatuer

Post by Ken »

How many people saw Arthur Palac in the 2000 Olympic Box-Off beat Jeff Lacy and get robbed? This would have been the 3rd straight win over Lacy. Had beat Lacy for 1999 US Championship. He also had wins over Randy Griffin, Julius Fogel and Jerson Ravelo (split). Unfortunately after last Lacy fight he went up to 200 heavyweight in 2001 after beating Malachy Farrell lost to Charles Ellis. Anyone know his record?

Was to have turned pro along with his brother but never did.

I remember he was one of the tallest middleweights i'd ever seen and a southpaw to cap it all.

Tall, white and in your face with that southpaw jab. Had Lacy's number. Should have gone to olympics. Would have fared better than Lacy I'm sure. He had that ideal amatuer style to contend with the Europeans.

I was there. It was probably one of the best bouts I've seen. Yes, Palac had a better European style, but that was no guarantee that he would have done well at the Olympics. Jeff was one of the hardest hitters in USA Boxing. I don't think Palac got robbed.

You thought who beat who? And what was his brother's name? I remember Arthur being the better of the two Palacs - he accomplished more.

I didnt see the Palac/Lacy bout but I could imagine that Atrhur would have given Lacy fits.

When I was training at Galaxy (Jackie Kallens gym) little Arthur was coming down and working out. He may have been 9 or 10 years old at the time. His father Ted trains him as well as his brothers aswell as other very good amatuers. Ted knows his stuff well.
