If he was fighting a limited fighter he could get away with fighting at a slow pace and picking his spots. Makes no sense to take chances when you don't have. He didn't have to for several years because his competition sucked.
However, if you are fighting someone that really good, that isn't enough. Had their been good opponents in his 30s, he would have lost to them fighting that way. He would have lasted longer than during his prime, but he would have lost.

Fighters that have a lot of power, have a weak chin, and are aggressive are going to have mixed results. It's been like that all through history. That's what happened to Klitschko in his 20s. He had big knockouts and got embarrassed a few times.

The Klitschko in his 20s was more likely to beat a good fighter. He was also more likely to lose badly.
The Klitschko later on was less likely to get embarrassed, but was also not going to beat someone that was pretty good.

Lol, so do you think he always would lose to the guys he punched himself out against, even without punching himself out? The mighty Purrity and Lamon 'Charles Shufford' Brewster? These fighters whose quality simply could never be matched by later heavys.

I mean, it's not like he was only about 1 round away from beating Purrity on pretty much a shutout anyway, or like he actually did jab Brewster's head off in a rematch.

No, read what I wrote.
If he fights like he did in his prime, he takes the chance of getting a bad loss. He also has a chance of blowing the other guy out. I don't think Purritty, Brewster, and Sanders were great fighters.

If you put the Klitschko of the 20s against a very good fighter, he might score a win. He might also lose badly.
The older Klitschko would not suffer a loss where he got brutally stopped. He would also not beat a really good fighter.

Ah, okay, but he would've improved his results :TU:

I don't ever see him beating any great fighter (unless you include certain past guys generously considers hw greats), minimizing his blips vs so so opposition is an improvement

Depends on who he's fighting whether or not he'd improve his results. He wouldn't improve his results against a guy like Tyson Fury.

When he was younger, he probably would have blown out the "Elusive One." Joshua as well. Though Joshua would not have fought him when he was younger.

I didn't say he'd beat Fury, but he at least would give himself a shot if he actually...ya know...fought.

Woulda just made for faster losses for Wladdy, Josh would fight him, dude has the deepest opposition in the division and will fight Fury next year, despite being a pro 5 years less than Fury and Wilder. Lol imagine Josh like just having fought Jason Gavern now , some pace huh

Look at any top 10-15 and he's fought the most guys there out of anyone, and he didn't take 7 years to make a huge step up finally vs guys like Bermane Stiverne lol. he's been pro less time than all the other top hws too. Fury-Josh coming next year baby

Should he switch it up to 17 year olds and middleweights :yay:

Lets see, out of Joshua's last 6 fights:
Two were against a guy who looked like he Contestant from the Biggest loser. He went 1-1 him.
Povetkin was 39.
Takem was 36.
Klitschko was frikkin 41. (He got decked in that one.)

Hasn't fought Fury. Hasn't fought Wilder. (Though he probably will in a few years when Wilder is in his late 30s)

Wow. How impressive.

Wasn't Larry Holmes available?

Most of these dudes were legit contending and were among the better dudes out there, plus of course you conviently left out younger guys like Parker and Whyte

Like I said, dude has fought the most contenders and champs out there from the top 10-15 on any list, and that's being pro 5 fewer years than Wilder and Fury. Those dudes had been pro 10 years already when they fought....Josh will fight Fury next year, they're working on it bruh and agreed to the money already. Maybe you're one of these guillable bruhs who think it's as easy as making instagram offers

Alp got Wilder covered on age

Fury covered on the fat slob and easier to hit than clevleand williams part

Josh already took a great total of 1 L and is a scared pussy

And thus no matter what happens, he's set it up perfectly for the currents hws just to end up trash and unproven , bring back Jack J emulating Wlad's hug and paw style vs middleweights and kids, now that's what we call real boxin!!

Why can fans not appreciate the sport as a whole?

Why is it always all or nothing?

It's either all "The current guys are amazing, and could beat all the old schmucks" or "The old guys are legends and would whip everybody today"

Your constant childish insults of past legends gets real f*cking annoying.

Lol ya, picking on one single boxer from the 1910s means I'm all in on the current guys, they are the only good fighters ever!! Not like I recently called Ali the GOAT or anything...or that fighters of past generations (not Jack's! )had wider punch selection and better combos,

You should payer closer attention bruh , I'm not even close to being the most era biased in this thread :TU:

It can't go without mention when comparing his standing to other heavyweights, nor is it out of place to bring up his constant hugging, pawing style when certain posters who rate him grandly bash other fighters for the exact same thing. The reality is that he gets big credit for wins over teenagers and fought guys in hw fights who were equivalent in size to middlweights or lower today, and that simply has to be accounted for when making comparisons to other heavyweights. Imagine if AJ won the HW title vs Bryan Castano? it would seem outrageous lol! I think he's massively overrated so I say it regulary...so what if it was the best of his time, if the best of one's time was Butterbean it wouldn't make him them a legend for smashing him over and over.

And it's 1 fricking dude who I go after for being overrated, so what. Tell me where else all this history bashing and current era loving are going down. Lol though I know someone in this thread who does it the opposite way

We all have that 1 guy anyway don't we. Like you've droned on about how you hate Fury (I don't hate JJ btw) and the staring contest and blah blah. Don't worry my boi, that's all fine and dandy by me :TU:

Cool, there certainly was a period there where you went on and on and on about your hate for him, tbh if I hated a guy it wouldn't be something he could undo with a win, that would seem like a more personal issue :TU:

It was a combination of gutsy performances, and personal grown on my part I'd say. He's a goofy ass that doesn't conduct himself anywhere near the way I'd conduct myself, but the sports world loves characters like that so it's not a bad thing, and in other ways he seems like a likeable guy....sometimes.

I'm still not a fan, but I don't hate him.

I think Andy Ruiz is a pretty good opponent despite his physique but he was way too heavy in the rematch. If he had slimmed down to the 250s or so he would probably have had a better chance.

He fought the guys of his era. That's it. That's all anyone can do.
And he does it when nobody is even talking about Johnson. Criticize one of his guys and it's always some BS about along the line of "well at least he wasn't just fighting middleweights."

He brings up Johnson more often than everyone else combined, and he knows almost nothing about him.
