Normally that call is reserved for Ghanians esp from Accra.

However he does wheel it out for some very low standard Commonwealth defences.

I completely forget the fight now - maybe Cheeseman-Garcia?? - but whoever the British fighter was had been battered from pillar to post by his opponent for about 8 rounds solid, then had a good 30 seconds and Adam Smith excitedly exclaimed “was this the plan all along?!?”. There was an awkward pause until Macklin said “erm, no I don’t think so”

Teak tough was a McGuigan one. He used that for years before Smith started with his means streets of Bukom schtick.

McGuigan always used tenacious too, it used to make me laugh.

Yeah he got a lot of stick also when he said mclellan was quitting.... but he didn’t know what was going to unfold. I like the way Jim spoke his mind and wasnt afraid of being controversial..... boxing commentary (with the exception of the entertaining black skellington) is so bland. I blame Adam Smith who know nothing about boxing he just likes his own voice

Smith like other modern day commentators thinks screaming comments and stretching out words is good commentary. Froch is rubbish as a co-commentator, Malignaggi is so much better.

Adam Smith has been a terror for boxing fans. Having to look at his ugly face and creepy expressions while he growls like an idiot. I don't care who they replace him with but the day he retires and gets replaces is going to be up there with one of the best days of my life. To never have to see or hear that pr*ck again to ruin boxing nights would be a great pleasure

That's a fair point. I was watching the fight with five mates and when we saw his tattoo we all turned and looked at each other and said "that bastard Bellew has deliberately got a bomber tattoo to stick two fingers up to all the teenage girls who got killed in that terrorist attack! Fvck him! Definitely supporting Usyk now! Heartless wanker!" But then luckily Smith put us straight and we breathed a sigh of relief and went back to supporting Tony......

I remember Lampley having a dig at Hopkins interviewing him in the ring, for the quality of his opponent(Eastman?) in one interview,
Hopkins replies schooled him in customary fashion.

That was Larry Merchant after the Morrade Hakkar fight. He more or less threatens Hopkins that he has to fight better competition or not be shown on HBO.

Incidentally I found Hopkins to be awful as a commentator, he had difficulty just speaking let alone saying something smart, you'd think a guy like him might be full of some gems and boxing wisdom but he sure couldnt express it
