All what Bernard Taylor did was running against the great Eusebio Pedroza. And he and the crowd in Charlotte, NC expected the decision to go in his favor. But, to beat the champion, you gotta overwhelm the champion by throwing lots of punches. Not by running.Nile4000 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2020, 21:35True, and I think his failure to fight guys like Laporte, Lockridge, and Nelson hurt him in the long run.elmersalsa wrote: ↑28 Jun 2020, 03:28
Bernard Taylor was not something to be awed about. He was not in The Professor's class.

I always thought that if you scored points than the champion you could beat him.

True. But I did have Bernard winning by a couple of points.elmersalsa wrote: ↑29 Jun 2020, 09:55All what Bernard Taylor did was running against the great Eusebio Pedroza. And Bernard Taylor didn't do that. You can't win the belt from the champion by running around and not throwing anything. Alacran was the just winner in my view.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑30 Jun 2020, 10:58 I always thought that if you scored points than the champion you could beat him.

To me, he did. If Pedroza had started his body attack a couple of rounds earlier, he would not have this blemish on his record. But give Bernard credit. Eusebio didn't get away with his foul tactics on Taylor.

It's not like this is the only time that the judges gave Pedroza a break.
Re: The Top 100 Greatest Boxers Pound per Pound of All-Time
It was ugly but Bernard Taylor beat Pedroza on my scorecard. Yes, he ran alot but was landing enough to win rounds. Thought EP clearly lost to Lockridge in the 1st bout and I had LaPorte edging him.

Taylor was already mentioned. There was the two Lockridge fights. Then there was the LaPorte fight.
All four easily could have gone the other way. This has been talked about many times.

Re: The Top 100 Greatest Boxers Pound per Pound of All-Time
I will watch it again in the near future, but from what I saw when I watched the fight, Bernard did enough to win. I am a Bernard Taylor fan, and I am also a Pedroza fan. I feel that Eusebio was very underrated as a fighter, and gets overlooked because of the presence of Roberto Duran and being co-champion with Salvador Sanchez. I feel probably that Salvador ducked him to a degree, so I can undertstand his frustration at that. But he did lose to Bernard Taylor that day in Charlotte.elmersalsa wrote: ↑02 Jul 2020, 07:46You must be a Bernard Taylor fan or a Pedroza hater. No way he did enough.

Pedroza won outright. All 4 times. He threw more and connected more. End of story.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑02 Jul 2020, 11:05 Taylor was already mentioned. There was the two Lockridge fights. Then there was the LaPorte fight.

Pedroza is one of elmer's favorites. Therefore he deserved the decision in all the fights and should be rated highly. End of story.
elmer doesn't like De La Hoya. Therefore he should not be rated very high. End of story.

Re: The Top 100 Greatest Boxers Pound per Pound of All-Time
Just because Pedroza is one of my favorite fighters does not detract that he was a great fighter. A man that defended 20 times his title, 10 times in opposition's back yard should count for something. That means consistency as champion in world title fight level.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑02 Jul 2020, 16:07 Pedroza is one of elmer's favorites. De La Hoya did not do anything but to be an HBO superstar. That was it.
Re: The Top 100 Greatest Boxers Pound per Pound of All-Time
No way! He did enough. Pedroza was champ in how many weight classes? The Great Oscarito was the total package. Close the curtain.elmersalsa wrote: ↑03 Jul 2020, 14:15De La Hoya did not do enough to be in the top 100 all time greats. There are many fighters that were better than he and did not make it.
Do you want to know their names.

De La Hoya vs. Trinidad unification De la Hoya won more rounds. He was robbed. This is a W in my mind. Tito did not win. No way!
Re: The Top 100 Greatest Boxers Pound per Pound of All-Time
De la Hoya vs. Mosley Robbed twice against the Balco cheater. No way that was just! 2 more W in my head for the great Golden Boy!!
