Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight, Says Golden Boy Prez
Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez, who promotes Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, confirms that John Ryder and WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith are potential opponents for the Mexican superstar.
Although Gomez cautions that Ryder and Smith are not the only possibilities in the running - and he admits that it would be easier to finalize a deal with an opponent from the United States - due to the restrictions pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic.
Canelo is slated to return on a tentative date of September 14 in Las Vegas.
The opponent will ultimately depend on the finances, since Canelo will not get paid his usual guarantee for the next fight.
Canelo signed an 11 fight deal, worth $365 million, with streaming service DAZN in 2018.
Because his next fight will likely take place behind closed doors, there won't any revenue generated from a live crowd.
Fighters like David Lemieux and Sergiy Derevyanchenko have already made it clear that they are not going to fight someone like Canelo for a low sum.
"There is a very good chance [Canelo could face Smith or Ryder]. There are a couple of guys we are looking at as a possibility," Gomez said to Sky Sports.
"[If we get an opponent in the United States] we don't have to deal with any visa restrictions that have been imposed by the government. If there is someone already here in the US? That helps. It is more difficult now because of the restrictions. The borders are not all open so it isn't easy to bring some fighters to the US.
"It all depends on the negotiations. We are not living in the world that we lived in last year. Canelo will be taking a significant paycut. It depends on the negotiations. Anybody willing to come to the table and be reasonable, he will fight. We are not discarding any of the top guys."

Yeh and all the time , Canelo is in full training camp , and the others will fight on a few weeks notice ,, Don't like BJS but will say i agree 100% with his stance ,, FOOK Canelo and his 10 week notice of which 4 weeks are doing promo shite , while you take a cut and he gets 33 mill .
Even now they dom't know which one , but if its either , its virtually on the plane and train inbetween promo dates

If you're diciplined in boxing, you should always stay in some decent shape and training regardless.. Not saying don't have days off, but that's when they start splatting excuses. Saying they never or need more time to train.coneye wrote: ↑10 Jul 2020, 05:41 Yeh and all the time , Canelo is in full training camp , and the others will fight on a few weeks notice ,, Don't like BJS but will say i agree 100% with his stance ,, FOOK Canelo and his 10 week notice of which 4 weeks are doing promo shite , while you take a cut and he gets 33 mill .

Anyone from 160 to 168 should be prepared to get an offer to fight Canelo, it could be anyone, literally. Canelo fights May and September.

Reminds me a bit of when the colleagues in our store missed out on their bonus and our store manager said ‘you guys feel bad about that I have to pay the max rate of tax on my bonus!’
Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
10 week notice is a ploy used by Mayweather, Joshua, Alvarez so they can be on the PEDs...come off them...and get it all out of their system but enjoy the benefits. But their opponents don't have the same time do the same.coneye wrote: ↑10 Jul 2020, 05:41 Yeh and all the time , Canelo is in full training camp , and the others will fight on a few weeks notice ,, Don't like BJS but will say i agree 100% with his stance ,, FOOK Canelo and his 10 week notice of which 4 weeks are doing promo shite , while you take a cut and he gets 33 mill .

Billy Joe has walked away from this then - Might be one he regrets.
Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
They are the champs so they have the power to call the shots.
If you get the call for a world title fight you have to take it, they may not come again, as a professional 4 weeks should be enough.
Dillian Whyte should have taken the AJ fight, who knows if he will ever fight for the title.

I agree 100% , a fighter should stay in shape all year rnd , fight have some timne off and back in the gym after all ameteurs do it a world champ should be the same .. However it does seem Canelo is the star he stays that way by dictating who when and where ,, with everyone hanging out for the big payday ,Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑10 Jul 2020, 05:46If you're diciplined in boxing, you should always stay in some decent shape and training regardless.. Now i don't like Billy Joe not personaly i don't know him , but like most others i think the way he conducts himself , he comes across has a bully and a pratt , However i do applaud him for this stance , he knows , he's not being given a fair shake , and the money is'nt that important to him , others will jump at it for the money and who can blame them , they found the golden egg , But Saunders wants a fair shake an even playing field and who can blame him .
Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
He's made 20 million or more like 3 or 4 times already right?
Hell if I were him, and I were taking much of a paycut I might just choose now to say "Ya know what? I got enough money. I don't need this"
Some guys seem to genuinely love it. Or they get into the kinda lifestyle they'll only be able to continue affording with extreme paydays, but if you got 50 Million plus and you're not an idiot, you should be set for life.

Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
Canelo is the champion, he has partaken in more world title fights than Billy Joe could ever dream about, he has only ever lost to Mayweather (officially), he has beaten so many big names, and right now is coming off the back of a huge historical win against Kovalev at light heavy. He is a global superstar, a massive draw. Nobody knows Billy Joe, his bargaining chip is his WBO title, which lets be honest, gives him a lot less leverage than he seems to think it does.coneye wrote: ↑10 Jul 2020, 05:41 Yeh and all the time , Canelo is in full training camp , and the others will fight on a few weeks notice ,, Don't like BJS but will say i agree 100% with his stance ,, FOOK Canelo and his 10 week notice of which 4 weeks are doing promo shite , while you take a cut and he gets 33 mill .

IMO he should be willing to fight Canelo at the drop of a dime. 10 weeks notice is ample time and the money should not be his sole drive here. Beat Canelo and you are an instant superstar. He would make huge money on the back of a victory over Canelo.
Fans should get to see the terms being offered, they should be made public, then we have a better idea of whats really going on here.
My guess is, in Billy Joe's mind, i doubt he fancies the job. That might just be the root of his decision.
Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
Pay cut my a**e. An 11 fight deal, worth $365 million has been signed and that’s what he’s entitled to over 11 fights.
My hunch is Smith would taker a lower amount as he lives the life and genuinely fancies his chances. Saunders looked fat as butter on a recent IFL interview so I believe him when he says he can’t get ready in 10 weeks.
If it’s Ryder and he smashes him up quick, after the Fielding debacle, Canelo is going to catch some stick and rightly so.
I notice how team seem to be conveniently forgetting about Beterbiev.
As time is going on this deal for DAZN is looking worse than Newcastle’s decision to tie Alan Pardew to an 8-year contract.

Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
Thats the thing , I don't think money is the factor here , BJS has been paid well , and while he would'nt have the countless millions Canelo has , , he would have enough to live his chosen lifestyle , fo the rest of his life , so that brings it down to does he fancy it , and he obviously is not prepared to go in under done , like most of Canelos opponents are , either through getting older or weight limits , Canelo weights , or just simply like now ,,, 10 weeks and you have to spend 3-4 of that on the road promoting ,, Its getting closer Canelo still has'nt let his chosen victim in on the secret , he knows , but he's dragging it out , and no doubt Ryder or Smith may jump at it , but are they has wet up in life has BJS , i don't know , maybee they are maybee there not ,, but i really do believe BJS wants to win and he knows when he's being took the piss out of and prepared to walk , , He knows he has a belt and that fight will come , simply because , Canelo may beat up Ryder , this time , then Smith next time , but he will have to sooner or later fight someone who refuses to bow to him and his demands , , or retire himself .. Like i said previously , I'm not a fan of BJS but am glad to see him refusing to prostitute himself for the dollars ,, Anyway alls he did was take himself out of the equation , he was'nt actually offered the fight was he . and nw we still don't know anyone who's actually been offered the fight , , its canelo being CaneloALI wrote: ↑10 Jul 2020, 23:42Canelo is the champion, he has partaken in more world title fights than Billy Joe could ever dream about, he has only ever lost to Mayweather (officially), he has beaten so many big names, and right now is coming off the back of a huge historical win against Kovalev at light heavy. Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
BJS probably wants 7-9 million for the Canelo fight. With no following and him being a dick he will be lucky to get 1/3 of that for the next year.
Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
If BJS beat canelo, where would you rate it in terms of greatest win by a UK fighter?

Agree , right up there , and a totally fit , in tune Saunders , may just be slick enough to cause a upset ,,, OK OK , not likely . but not totaly out of the question , , Canelo can be outboxed , he does only work in spurts and needs time to recover , , which he will not get if he constantly has to chase , Its actually a fight i would like to see.

Shame every prospective opponent doesn’t decline the fight. I wonder if BJS pulled-out because he hasn’t enough time to cycle the peds out...

Re: Canelo Taking "Significant Paycut" in Next Fight
Boxers could learn a lot from the UFC. The elite UFC fighters often take fights on short notice, and they don't complain. Masvidal fights Usman in a few hours, he stepped in on 6 days notice.
Saunders wants mega millions, but cannot keep his ar*e in shape between fights, its a joke to say 10 weeks is too short, laughable.
I reckon Saunders is being offered around 3 to 4 mil USD. Canelo is on much more, but so what, he is the A++++ here.
For all the big talk, my guess is Saunders is not overly keen on the challenge, and if he has to take it, he wants a lot more than they are quoting him now.

3-4 million ,, he gets beat , and he will regardless only chance of winning in the states is by KO and we all know thats not gonna happen,, but anyway , he takes it he gets beat , and his value PLUMETTS BIG TIME ,, , now the 10 weeks is enough for a normal fight , but one of this magnitude , its not , simply because he will spend 4 out of the 10 having to promote mainly and train in between , its not a proper camp ,, So without a proper camp he's stupid to take ANY cut in pay , , he could fight Eubanks again , and make 3-4 mill , or Smith another couple of mill , win them and his stock goes up and he can demand a lot more from Cheatelo ,,, Makes no buisness sence whatsoever , to take a pay cut and less training time , ,,Canelo knows when he's fighting there was NO REASON not to give an opponent plenty of time , except he wants the advantage , and most fighters want the paydy so will take what he offers .ALI wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 21:20 Boxers could learn a lot from the UFC. Watched a few older fights of Canelo recently. His body shape has completely changed.
I know he’s gone up in weight but the transformation is as clear as night and day.
I’d love someone to just freeze his samples for 20 years and test them once technology has caught up.

Im not a lawyer but sure 365 million dollar contracts have a few more rules than just "11 fights"...
Canelo cant just fight bin men and get 38 million. Im sure there are clauses for "unforeseeable events" or somthing similar. also requirements of opposition, if canelo wants a tune up with no crowd, that could/would influence his pay.

Saunders has been crying for the fight for a very long time now, and likes to say Canelo is ducking him, as he did with GGG, but when the time comes to fight, niether's team can meet Saunders terms, it would seem. If he was confident of beating either, he'd take the short change.coneye wrote: ↑12 Jul 2020, 03:493-4 million ,, he gets beat , and he will regardless only chance of winning in the states is by KO and we all know thats not gonna happen,, but anyway , he takes it he gets beat , and his value PLUMETTS BIG TIME ,, , now the 10 weeks is enough for a normal fight , but one of this magnitude , its not , simply because he will spend 4 out of the 10 having to promote mainly and train in between , its not a proper camp ,, So without a proper camp he's stupid to take ANY cut in pay , , he could fight Eubanks again , and make 3-4 mill , or Smith another couple of mill , win them and his stock goes up and he can demand a lot more from Cheatelo ,,, Makes no buisness sence whatsoever , to take a pay cut and less training time , ,,Canelo knows when he's fighting there was NO REASON not to give an opponent plenty of time , except he wants the advantage , and most fighters want the paydy so will take what he offers .ALI wrote: ↑11 Jul 2020, 21:20 Boxers could learn a lot from the UFC. The problem with boxing is it is far more of a business than it is a sport.
