How many boxers have been killed by someone who has failed a PED test? How many fatalities has Jarrell Miller accumulated? Tyson Fury? Shane Mosely? Povetkin? Toney? Tarver? Briggs? Alvarez? Sturm? Peterson? There's a lot more names that could be added here. You already know the answer.

How many PRIDE fighters died during the run of the biggest MMA promotion in Japan that was literally run by Yakuza and where drugs we encouraged for all? I'm guessing you don't know the answer here, but it's also zero. How about the early days of UFC, pre any sort of steroid testing at all? Again, zero.

The fact is, taking PED's will not turn someone into a killing machine. People that actually believe that lack even the most basic knowledge of any of the specific pieces of the argument they so poorly try to construct.

If you are truly "civilized" and care about the future of athletes then you would be campaigning to ban boxing. Under no circumstance is boxing a safe sport. Faux-moralists only care about fighters health when it comes to PED's because they are uneducated on the effects of PED's (and we're just talking BASIC PED's here...there are combinations innumerable out there). These people don't actually care about fighters health, they just want to seem smart which is a big swing and a miss in most cases.
I don’t think opposing PEDs out of safety is an act of ignorance. You’re making assumptions that our only position could be that PEDs will result in more death.

First, Is it really ridiculous to assume that something that makes someone bigger, faster, and stronger is dangerous? Your stats are badly skewed because it relies on only the fighters who tested positive in recent years. It is untold how many fighter deaths could be linked to PEDs now and in the past because we just don’t know. Boxing deaths do not usually occur at the high level where a well-known fighter’s positive test is highly publicized, so I don’t make much of your suggestion that PEDS≠deaths because of a few famous fighters that thankfully didn’t kill anyone. Also, you can’t point to an MMA organization as proof of anything safety-related in boxing. MMA has so many fewer deaths than boxing that the comparison is just not reliable at all.
There’s more than just deaths at stake. There’s long term health of fighters at stake. You can love boxing and care about fighter safety. The sport is what it is, but it’s not savagery.

These things cost 36.000$ per fighter. Compare that to Dave Allens 11.000$ purse for fighting none other than Luis Ortiz Ko Machine and you have to ask yourself is boxing still a sport or has it become a medical field?
I’m interested by the fact that VADA costs $30,000+ per fighter. That is definitely an economic limit that I admit I was ignorant of. Is there any legitimate solution to testing up and comers?

Deaths were not part of my original reasoning, simply a response to another contributors emotionally charged post.

PED’s can indeed make an athlete bigger, faster, and stronger. They can also aid in weight loss, greatly reduce recovery time, and in fact may actually enhance or protect brain function.

The argument against all PED usage typically stems from someone saying people will die. Mismatches are far more likely to cause death in a ring then steroid usage and that is backed by actual facts. I include MMA because those that believe PEDs literally create killing machines should be able to point to all sorts of deaths in a sport with more ways to damage an opponent. Of course those deaths don’t exist.

Your final point about considering the long term health of the fighter is a good one, and one that would likely strengthen the argument for allowing PED usage if one actually looks into what many PEDs actually do.

This is all contingent on doctors being involved in this process by the way. I know I hadn’t originally clarified that but my stance is PEDs should be legal in sports and in life.

In a rainbow fantast world every boxer would get tested every day without any adverse effects and everyone would be friends and nobody would fight so that there would be no boxing. In this realworld the fighter who cant make a buck boxing is gonna mess up his life in some other way so keeping peds from people simply isnt gonna perform any miracles.

For what it's worth I heard Fres Oquendo on a podcast talking about how he was supposed to fight Miller in Chicago but Miller refused to allow vada testing. Bogdan Dino then took the fight instead. It all makes sense now.
