It's a chemical imbalance in the brain. Without medication, it's physiologically impossible for it to balance itself with a magic wand.

The truth is he couldn't be bothered to carry on boxing so went off the rails, eating and drinking and sniffing til he ran out of money.

What he thought was depression was a coke comedown, hangover and nutritional value of cold pizza.

The bloke's a conman mate.

To lie about being mentally ill also is about as low as it gets.
I doubt he's lying about being mentally ill, he was talking about it in interviews years before any of this went down

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2011/ ... -interview
No diagnosis, no medication, just a magic wand!

Bless you. If he was mentally ill, he wouldn't be a world boxing champion.

He couldn't be bothered to train, came back when he ran out of money.

Are you seriously telling me he gave that interview thinking "Great, this will be useful evidence if I happen to lose motivation and maybe fail a drugs test a few years in the future"?

Actually exercise causes the same structural changes in the brain that taking an antidepressant would. It has been shown to create new neural pathways and growth in the hippocampus, which is a part of the brain that is generally shrunken in people that have depression.

So on that analysis, no one who was ever once depressed ever got out of bed again. Or did anything worthwhile. Cos they once had depression. Good one

It's not something that magically goes away when you run out of money, without being treated.

What did he say specifically, and can you provide a link please? You know for a fact that he's never at any stage taken medication?

He certainly mentions his therapist, and how highly he rated him, in his autobiography. So has obv sought treatment, thus it didn't 'go away' on its own. He's also mentioned many times his need for structure and routine as a coping mechanism.

They reckon he had £56k left in the world before the comeback started. That’s in his book. But you know nothing if you think depression is a blag with Fury. There are countless interviews when he was ‘on the up’ where he and Paris allude to it.

Also to say anyone with severe depression cannot ever function or amount to anything is Naive at best. Winston Churchill himself suffered from it (the black dog) and he didn’t do to badly in the end. People do get better and they don’t always have to be medicated. Lifestyle tweaks, meeting someone, losing someone etc and for a LOT of people training and exercise keeps them on a level. I agree the heavy drinking and the whiff won’t have helped but you’ve got no right to call the man out as a fraud over his mental health issues.

I know from personal experience that depression is very complex.

Relatively small changes in personal circumstances can have a disproportionate effect of elleviating symptoms.

Just losing a bit of weight or gaining financial security can do wonders for one's feeling of self worth.

Fury has done both, he is in a better place physically and mentally than he was a few years ago and it shows.

It could rear its ugly head at any time in the future though, so don't be surprised to see him have another melt down downthe line.

Total bollocks. I suffered with and was diagnosed with chronic long term clinical depression. I was saved with cognitive behavioural therapy. Stick to what you know about. Eubank stories.

Yep, latest studies show that in mild to moderate cases, exercise is at least as effective as antidepressants. I was offered antidepressants, and took the prescription, but the potential side effects seemed too much, so I opted for therapy, quitting booze and regular exercise. Didn't work overnight, took a good 6 months to crawl out of the hole completely but my test scores post therapy on 6 month review were a world away from where I was. Had a couple of blips since, but great thing about CBT is it gives you the tools to both recognise when you're falling back into a slump, and how to stop it happening.

They should teach it in schools.

Some people are more prone to depression than others, nobody really knows how much hereditary, but there are familial links, but there is most always an initial trigger, followed by others, booze and drugs are factors, for sure, and cessation of both during an episode of serious depression is pretty much essential to recovery, but they are comorbidities rather than causes.

There is another possibility , He was just a young man who had ben training all his life to relize the dream he had pushed into him since being born , who then reached the pinacle and decided he'd had enough he wanted a break , , he relized his dream and had no mountain to climb , he also had a bank vault full off money . So this young man , with nothing to do and all the money to do it with ,was absolutly BORED SHITLESS ,so went out partying ,, he decided he liked no loved the partying so much he would buy the patent , then the more he shoved up his nose , and the more he drank , went out and had everyone wanting to party and suck his dick , the more bored he got when he was'nt pissed or stoned , so off he would go again ,, , Then one day he got bored off that , looked in the mirror and said you fookinn fat dosser and got back training . . .

Doubt a man has fully dpressed has he claims to be could turn things around in such a short time ,,, But a bored fatman , who's a master of manipulting media certainly could ,, so there ladies and gents , i just put it to you he was'nt depresed he was bored

Tbf , boredom can actually be pretty f@cking depressing, kinda represents a major void in your life. chronic boredom really is closely tied to depression i think. its like your energys been sapped, you dont know what to do with yourself, you cant enjoy yourself like you used to , etc. you cant get yourself going because you dont even know how to anymore

and when youre bored your mind is freed up to wonder and stray to negative things

hell maybe tyson was winning too easy? even hardly getting touched by the long reigning champ. maybe in a way the letting himself go was a way to make things a challenge again, and then we saw him come in even better after the issues in wilder 1 and otter wallin, like he'd found extra motivation. maybe he is mosst vulnerable after a good showing rather than after a poorer one

I’ve always been sceptical.

It was announced at a time that conveniently seemed to gloss over the fact he was digesting ‘ wild uncastrated boar’

If you ask the average Joe in the streets about his drug fail, they will probably think it’s for Cocaine.

The UK doesn’t like a high profile performance enhancing drug cheat. The fact they have been able to change the narrative to a positive one is an incredible achievement by Team Fury.

Most fighters have jobs so don't have time to be bored.

If you are full time and have enough money you need to be disciplined as there is a lot of down time. Ideally you should be ticking over in the gym all the time ready to take a fight at a moments notice.

However some are lazy and are on the sofa waiting for a date and put on a lot of weight.

Others are out a lot, enjoying the attention and often end up in trouble.

Even if you are in the gym a lot there is still a lot of down time and living the life is one of the most important things in boxing.

To live and breathe the sport some fighters spend a lot of time at shows, amateur and pro, it's a good way to enjoy the limelight and stay out of trouble as well as to help train others in the gym.

Saying that other fighters need time away from boxing to disconnect inbetween training and fighting.

Spare time is a killer and the best way is to keep a fighter busy with fighting.
