Mayer is a nice looking woman but is a tough watch, boxing wise. I'm really keen to give women's boxing a chance since the UFC have got a good roster of lady fighters that are fun to watch (more interesting to watch than the blokes, really)but I only watched Mayer fight once and she seemed stiff and robotic, and nothing special at all. It made me wonder why she was getting so much hype.

ESPN pulling 0 punches and calling Javier Martinez a straight up snub from Team USA. I honestly don’t follow amateur boxing to know whether that’s accurate or not. Thought it was pretty brazen to use the term “snub” multiple times.

He won the Olympic trials, which most people seem to think is what gets you on the team, but the reality is that the olympic trials is only 1 of multiple qualifying events to make the team, with each counting for a certain number of points. Another guy had more points even with Martinez winning the trials

I watched some of his international fights and he looked out of his depth at that level

Thanks, Iron Lady. He didn’t look super sharp tonight either.

Mayer looked super sharp last night. Did anyone else notice that she weighed in a pound and a half over?

Couldn't be arsed to watch tbh, 100-90 makes me think that was the right move?

It can still be exciting even with a 100-90 card

It is a big rarity for me to be entertained by a 100-90 x3 type of fight, there is only so much entertainment in someone being game but beaten that much, for this type of fight it was probably just Mayer boxing and being too long, but without much power for a plodding but durable opponent, repeat round after round

Mayer-Joseph ESPN Telecast Peaks At 380K Viewers

The show ultimately went on Tuesday evening in Las Vegas.

A makeshift main event on ESPN came with a bit of history, as Mikaela Mayer’s 10-round shutout of Helen Joseph marked the first time ever that a female bout served as the headliner on ESPN’s flagship network. The bout topped a four-fight bill which averaged 307,000 viewers over the course of the 142-minute telecast Tuesday evening at MGM Grand Conference Center (“The Bubble”) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The show peaked at 380,000 viewers, during the evening’s main event.

Overall, the show enjoyed a 3% increase from the previous telecast, when Carlos Takam’s 10-round win over Jerry Forrest in their July 9 heavyweight headliner averaged just 299,000 viewers.
