I disagree, by the time he got to Tzsyu we was a well rounded championship distance fighter who was well experienced against all types of opponents, and of course they waited for the right time to get the Russian.

I disagree, by the time he got to Tzsyu we was a well rounded championship distance fighter who was well experienced against all types of opponents, and of course they waited for the right time to get the Russian.

He hadn't improved since the Phillips fight. The Magee fight was his learning fight, he was ready then.

And of course Hatton had fought at the MEN dozens of times, Tszyu never been to the UK and had only a couple of rounds under his belt in many years.

I suggest you re-watch his pre-WBU career. Peacock, Pedro Toran, Thaxton, Pep and Pendleton fights - very special prospect, if they could've kept him out of the pub, cafe, chippy etc and moved him along quicker instead of waiting for another five years going stale.

Hatton, from early on, was blowing up between fights and having pints etc. This was going on during the WBU reign and should have set the alarm bells ringing that he needed to be moved on sharpish before he started losing his prime. Looking back, he always had the beating of Tszyu stylewise and you can see that by watching Tszyu get overwhelmed and stopped by Vince Phillips. Pressure was his achilles heel as im sure it will be for young Tim Tszyu, who looks a carbon copy of Kostya in every respect. I would have liked to have seen Hatton moved into world class sooner. Fights with the likes of Gatti and Ward could have been made. The Cotto fight would have been a banger at this time and he'd have stood a chance.

I agree. Cotto's chin was wobbly and his stamina inconsistent at 140 (two classic symptoms of weight-draining, particularly as the technique for doing it properly didn't become widely known until the 2010s). Hatton had more than enough power and engine to give Cotto absolute hell at that weight.

147 is a different story and I don't think Hatton could have lived with Cotto at that weight.
