Although Derevianchenko is 34 y/o, he is still one of the best-tested fighters from 160 lbs division. Tbh I'd be surprised if this fight is gonna happen. I'd like to see Charlo stepping up in competition.

“That fight with Sergiy isn’t completely done. It’s just some talks about it, and there’s not much I’m saying about it. I’m willing to get in there with the best,” said Jermall on the Derevyanchenko fight. from BN24

I'd like to see this too.
Charlo needs a big dog at 160 and Derevyanchenko is that man.
Sergiy has proved he is capable at the weight; it's time for Charlo to do the same.

Jermall Charlo’s handlers are obviously confident their man is capable of beating fellow Al Haymon stablemate Sergey Derevyanchenko, because this would only be a voluntary defence of his WBC title.
The Ukrainian is talented enough that neither Gennadiy Golovkin nor Danny Jacobs are eager to share the ring with him again.
Still, Derevyanchenko is on the cusp turning 35 years of age, and he’s had a few tough gruelling battles recently. And this may benefit the younger and fresher American.
Derevyanchenko might be quite a nervous fighter though because he was down in the first rounds of both of his razor-thin losses. His confidence seems to grow as fights progress.
And if he does that again with Charlo, he’ll be facing an uphill battle on the scorecards.
The American is a decent fighter, and a three-point swing round (due to Sergey suffering from a flash knockdown, despite owning the “winning” momentum) could have a significant impact on the outcome if the fight is incredibly competitive and difficult to score (as per the GGG & Jacobs bouts).

Yup. I'm curious to see how Charlo would do against a top mw like Chenko (although is not a young fighter anymore), knowing that against Korobov, Jermall struggled in that fight- probably because Korobov is an experienced southpaw.

Good points. Also Jermall is the bigger fighter.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑17 Jul 2020, 04:07 Jermall Charlo’s handlers are obviously confident their man is capable of beating fellow Al Haymon stablemate Sergey Derevyanchenko, because this would only be a voluntary defence of his WBC title.

Jermall was moving on up, if it happens I'd assume it's at 68.

Charlo only said he had permission to make the jump to 168lbs at some point in the future, but he'll definitely be facing Derevyanchenko for the WBC world middleweight title (assuming this fight goes ahead, which currently seems very likely indeed).Onetimeonly wrote: ↑17 Jul 2020, 05:13 Jermall was moving on up, if it happens I'd assume it's at 68.

If I'm right, will you promise to cease using the slanderous "Onetimeonly" forum moniker?
And if you agree to this, then I'll promise to cease using the Enlightened-one BoxRec account if the Charlo-Derevyanchenko bout doesn't happen at 160lbs.
This is an opportunity to prove who’s lying and who isn’t.

You seriously think those two will face each other at 168lbs, when both are middleweights and one of them holds a world title at 160lbs?
You keep accusing me of being a liar, but you seem extremely reluctant to prove it or to defend your accusations.
Do you happen to suffer from a severe dose of Keyboard Tourettes Syndrome by any chance?

Either way, a move to 168 or a fight with Sergey, both would be good moves for Mall. More interesting than what he's done lately.
He's still a pretty big guy at 160 and should fit into 168 well, there is a lot more open to him there given PBC's roster.

Why would I be afraid to change user names? Of course you intentionally worded it that way. Here's a fun challenge. I'll take a bullet for the forum, let's both leave. No switching to verlichte or any of your other accounts, just leave. Hell, you might get laid.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑17 Jul 2020, 12:16Too scared to take me up on my challenge about Charlo-Derevyanchenko for the WBC world middleweight title?Onetimeonly wrote: ↑17 Jul 2020, 11:14We certainly can't just go by eo. Re: I'd love to see Derevianchenko vs Charlo this year! I hope it happens
"Sergiy Derevyanchenko on Supposed Canelo Alvarez Showdown: “His Side Did Not Give me an Offer, It Was Only Talk”"
Sergiy Derevyanchenko vs either Canelo Alvarez or Jermall Charlo has been the worst kept secret in all of boxing.
The middleweight contender is coming closer and closer to making his decision on whom he will take on in the fall. Although his choice is still up in the air, Charlo appears to have an edge. For fans of the sport, choosing Charlo over Canelo would seem almost impossible. A matchup with Canelo not only brings more eyes to the television screen, but it also fattens his opponents wallets.
Still, even with the notoriety and extra zeros in his bank account, Derevyanchenko has given Charlo the edge. His reasoning behind it is simple. Charlo appears to be serious about fighting him.
“Canelo says yes he wants to fight,” said the middleweight contender to BoxingInsider.com. “But his side did not give me an offer. It was only talk.”
Over the past several months, Canelo has found it increasingly difficult to land a dance partner for his September date. Fighters such as Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders have complained that they have been low balled in the negotiations. But for Derevyanchenko, he believes the pound for pound star never wanted to step into the ring against him.
A marketing ploy would best describe how Derevyanchenko and his trainer Andre Rozier feel about the stunt that Canelo and his team pulled.
The intrigue surrounding Derevyanchenko went through the roof with his last ring appearance. In October of 2019, Derevyanchenko pushed current middleweight belt holder Gennadiy Golovkin to the limit. Most who saw that contest live at Madison Square Garden in New York City, were incredulous when Golovkin was given the nod. Yet even with another championship stain on his resume, Derevyanchenko saw his stock soar.
His performance against Golovkin, coupled with his skillset has made him a fan favorite. But that new found stardom was something that Canelo wanted to take advantage of according to Rozier.
“You have to go where the paper is real,” said Rozier to BoxingInsider.com. “It bought a lot of intrigue and excitement. People are looking forward to seeing Sergiy fight after his last performance. They know that he comes and brings it. They almost used it as an advertising piece, smart move by Golden Boy.”

If Charlo won't fight Andrade for $7 million, I doubt if he will fight Derevianchenko.
