James Tennyson vs Gavin Gwynne

Post by handsofstone »

For the vacant British Lightweight title on the Eggington/Cheeseman card this Saturday, another great fight, I've only seen Gwynne once when he fought Cordina for this belt along with the Commonwealth, I had him losing wide but it wasnt true reflection of the fight, he gave Cordina trouble, he's tall,.punches harder than the 2KOs suggest and doesn't mind getting wet

Tennyson obviously moving up from Super Featherweight, big puncher down there and showed against Evans last time he carries that power up and carries it late as well, looking forward to this, Gwynne has the natural size, he works the body well and that's Tennyson's achilles, I'd never write off Tennyson knocking Gwynne out but I'm gonna go with Gwynne here,. I like Tennyson as well but just got a sneaky feeling Gwynne will be too big

I'll go with Tennyson here. But your right his weakness is his body. If he can keep at Tennyson body he could score the upset :bag:

I have a feeling Gwynne will win also.

Tennyson has plenty of pop and can box a bit, but I have never rated all that highly.

Only seen Gwynne the once but thought he put up a good account of himself against Cordina, who is one of this countries top prospects.

"Gwynne was docked a point in the sixth for aiming a kick at his fallen opponent "

:oo

Gwynne was respectable against Cordina, though Cordina won wide and has a completely difference style and set of strengths to Tenny. With Tenny moving up this is an interesting fight (could cutting less help that fragile body?) , Tenny is always fun :box:

I don’t see Gwynne hitting hard enough. Tennyson is vulnerable early but grows into fights. I think the extra weight will help him going for a Tenny stoppage

Thought Gwynne did well against Cordina at times, looks an interesting bout this one. Going for a late Tennyson stoppage.

A little cracker of a brawl, Gwynne showed some heart and a jab but Tennyson was just too much.

I fancied Gwynne here but as I mentioned in OP, you cant write someone with Tennyson's power off, he just bulldozed through Gwynne, battered him to head and body, left hooks, bug rights, digging in some sickening shots to the stomach, Gwynne had his moments, showed some nice work downstairs himself and tried to hang in there but it was too tall an order

Big right hand in the 6th had him taking a knee then Tennyson never let him off hook just battered him to the ropes and clubbed him down when it was stopped, Tennyson showing again he's one of the biggest punchers in the country

He's not beating anyone up at that level, but at EBU and below he's a tough ask. Just walked through Gav and broke him quickly. Would love to see him vs Bowen, Carol could be fun too

Good performance from Tennyson. Nice style, throws very hard punches and places them well.

He's improved a lot since Ryan Walsh beat him.

Would stand a better chance v Liam than he did v Ryan. Liam has the tendency to go to war and that would give Tenny a chance.. Saying that I think Liam stops him similar to the Fight with Ryan

I agree. I know he can punch but liam beats him. I thought he was lucky to get the world title shot at super feather. Only beat ward yes for European title but. Imo ward was lucky to to get wins against ronnie and cacace both very close fights. To get vacant title shot. And thats tennys best win.

Neither had exactly done all that much to earn a world title shot tbh, neither is world level either so doesn't really matter when it comes to them fighting
