Manny Pacquiao vs. Terence Crawford - Who wins?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Arum: We'd Like To Do Pacquiao-Crawford For 11/14 Or 11/21; Nothing Concrete

Bob Arum hasn’t given up on making a long-elusive fight against Manny Pacquiao next for Terence Crawford.

Arum informed BS.com that Pacquiao is among Crawford’s potential opponents for his upcoming bout. Crawford’s promoter confirmed that the unbeaten WBO welterweight champion will return to the ring November 14 or November 21 regardless of whether he can secure Pacquiao as Crawford’s opponent.

If a Pacquiao-Crawford fight were put together for November 14 or November 21, their pay-per-view main event would not take place in the United States because there is no guarantee fans will be able to attend sporting events in the U.S. by then. Arum has had discussions with interested investors from other countries who could pay a sizeable site fee for that 147-pound title unification bout, but Pacquiao’s former promoter acknowledged that it is far from a done deal.

Crawford has wanted to box Pacquiao for several years, but the feeling wasn’t exactly mutual when Arum’s company, Top Rank Inc., promoted both boxers. Now that the Filipino legend is interested in their showdown, Crawford has repeatedly stated in recent months that he wants to battle Pacquiao next.

“The Pacquiao fight, obviously we’d like to do it,” Arum told BS.com. “Whether we can do it, how we can do it, that’s what we’re figuring out now. Obviously, if it can happen it’ll happen, and if it can’t happen, it won’t happen. But nothing is concrete on that. We hope we can do it. We’re trying, but this is not a usual situation.”

The 41-year-old Pacquiao and the 32-year-old Crawford would end long layoffs against one another if they fight November 14 or November 21.

The Philippines’ Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) hasn’t fought since last July 20, when he dropped and defeated Keith Thurman (29-1, 22 KOs, 1 NC) by split decision in their 12-round fight for Thurman’s WBA “super” welterweight title at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, defeated Lithuania’s Egidijus Kavaliauskas (21-1-1, 17 KOs), his mandatory challenger, by ninth-round technical knockout in his most recent bout, December 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Arum has regularly mentioned England’s Kell Brook (39-2, 27 KOs), a former IBF welterweight champ, as a possible opponent for Crawford’s next bout as well. Crawford would accept a Brook bout, yet he is much more interested in finally facing Pacquiao.

“We told Terence that he’s scheduled to fight in November,” Arum said. “If it can’t be Pacquiao for various reasons, then we’ll match him with somebody else. But we told Terence to prepare for mid-November, whether it’s the 14th or the 21st.”

Whomever Crawford faces next, the three-division champion has made it clear that he won’t consider accepting any type of pay cut predicated on the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arum is exploring sites outside the United States for Pacquiao-Crawford because a significant site fee would help offset the gate revenue that’s unavailable because fans can’t attend boxing matches in the U.S. Under normal circumstances, Arum could charge premium prices for Pacquiao-Crawford tickets at various venues in Las Vegas.

Bob Arum has been using ,Manny Pacquiao's name to keep Terence Crawford in the media spotlight since 2014.

And since 2016, Arum has consistently speculated that a deal is likely to be struck for a bout between the American and the Filipino Hall-of-Famer.

However, the fact remains that Top Rank are unable to secure any meaningful marquee bouts for Crawford.

And all this name-dropping is simply a marketing ploy to ensure Crawford somehow remains relevant, but unfortunately, he isn't. Terence is "on the wrong side of the street."

To be fair, Crawford chose the paycheque over legacy. He knew the consequences of his decision to renew his contract with Top Rank.

I'd love to see this, but I'm not optimistic.

Pacquiao would represent Crawford's best opponent to date, if it were to come off.

Manny maybe 42, but he's still world class, although, at that age, he could grow old overnight.

Crawford needs a big fight at 147, otherwise he risks becoming irrelevant, despite his huge talent, because there are so many top class fighters at 147.

The only reason why Jeff Horn was rated 5th at welterweight by The RING at the time of his bout against Terence Crawford, was due to the horrific robbery he benefited from when he upset Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino won that fight (in my mind) by a 117-111 margin.

And Egidijus Kavaliauskas’ inclusion in The RING’s top-ten ratings was purely due to the process of elimination, whereby unbeaten fighters are automatically elevated in the rankings due to other fighters being relegated after suffering defeats.

The Lithuanian was at best only a borderline fringe top-ten contender, since he’d never previously beaten anyone of any note.

And Jose Benavidez Jr. and Amir Khan weren’t even rated by ESPN or The RING when they faced Crawford.

It sounds as though I’m being unreasonably harsh, but I’m not – those are the facts, irrespective of Crawford’s in-ring talents!

And let’s face it, by the time Terence Crawford engages in his next bout, more than 3½ years would have transpired since the last time he was involved in a meaningful fight.

So Bob Arum keeps using Manny Pacquiao's name to keep Crawford in the media spotlight.

Crawford just needs any big name opponent really. Ever since 2014 he's been treading water.

On the money.

It's such a shame, because he is a tremendous talent & could arguably be ruling the division, but instead, he's on the outside with his face pressed up against the glass, whilst the other welters are inside attending the party of a lifetime.

On the 6th September 2018, Terence Crawford willingly chose to renew his contract with Top Rank, knowing full-well that this would very likely rule out the possibility of bouts between himself and any of his big-name rivals until August 2025.

Everybody knew the consequences of Crawford's actions when he renewed his contract with Top Rank. The media spoke about it in great detail, and the same subject matter was also discussed at length on this forum.

No one should feel sorry for Crawford, because he's receiving a $3m guaranteed purse per bout, regardless of whoever he faces.

He chose the payday over legacy! And if Crawford really did "need" a big fight, he wouldn't have chosen to extend his contract with Top Rank.

Crawford's fans might be disappointed, but Terence himself won't be bothered in the slightest! He can enjoy living the life of luxury, whilst dishonestly accusing all of his big-name rivals of ducking him. And gullible fans will believe him.

I just mean he needs a big fight as far as his legacy is concerned. He doesn't need one financially speaking. He's doing well in that regard.

But if his career continues on the way it is. He won't be remembered as an All Time Great, He'll just be remembered as just another guy.

He'll get Ramirez in the spring I think. As long as postol doesn't upset the apple cart. Not exactly a huge name, but probably the best he can get. Al isn't sending any pbc guys to get schooled for no more money than they make now. Bud makes more than all but Errol. The logistics just don't work.

Really hope this happens. Would be a tremendous fight and would set up the winner against Spence very nicely.

But wasn't Arum just like 3 or 4 months ago talking about how he doesn't want to make this fight? I'm beginning to feel like boxing promoters might not be totally trustworthy.

Now it is rumored Manny may face Conor McGregor. It may be an unpopular opinion but I like the fight :TU: . Manny doesn't need to fight Crawford and Spence in their primes to prove anything to me.
Also *new Porter vs Formella on 8-22 winner set up to face the Spence vs Garcia winner. Not sure where Crawford fits in?

manny isn't fighting crawford, unless its for all the belts. i think he would try collect the others first (or tell crawford to collect em). Why would he otherwise, Crawford is super dangerous and brings about 9 fans to the PPV.

i do Still think manny should have a last crack at the real welters, mabey get spence of the back of his car crash, mabey have that Crawford fight. but then id like to see him go down and try meet loma at some weight in the middle. Manny weighted 145.5 vs thurman, either he acedently cut 1.5lbs too much, (hard to imagine a vet doing that but it happens) or, he is right about the 147 limmit (60lb of witch is calves.) 147ish lb 40 year old pac shouldent be in with the big welters that are realy 160lb+. 6 months of dieting in a way where he is not trying to be as big as he can, and a mild weight cut i think pac could even make 135.... but mabey meet a bit higher for the loma fight to make it fairer.

Then off the back of fighting realy light, he can fight connor mcgregor at 160. The huge weight difference and age difference will give the illusion that it could be a close fight, generating more buys, manny will KO him inside 5 rounds, retire even richer than he is, become presedent of the Philippians and be a calf model for a bit of spare cash.

Bouncing from 147-135-160 is foolish, in your 40s it's dangerous.

In a report on ESPN, Arum said that the only thing he’s done so far is inform Crawford and his manager and trainer Brian McIntyre to prepare for a potential fight in the middle weeks of November but no opponent has been determined.

“Right now, all we’ve done is we’ve contacted Crawford and ‘BoMac’ [Brian McIntyre, Crawford’s manager/trainer], told them that they’ll fight in November, either the 14th or the 21st, and we’re looking at opponents,” said Arum.

MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons also said in the report that the Pacquiao-Crawford fight was “news to me.”

So basically, Bob Arum hasn't even contacted Team Pacquiao. All he's done is inform Crawford that he's likely to fight on the 14th or the 21st November against "somebody".

And like I said before. Bob Arum just keeps using Manny Pacquiao's name to keep Terence Crawford in the media spotlight.

Its not realy bouncing. He is currently a tiny 147, i think he could easily make 140. i actually suggested not 135 but somewhere between that and 147. and then he isnt actualy going to be 160, he just be what he is now, he can afford to give u some weight to mcgregor to give the illusion that that fight will be compeditive.

So what im actually saying is, loose a tiny bit of weight well, and then gain a tiny bit of weight well. but its only a few pounds of actual weight loss and gain.

He hardly ever weighs 147 as well.

Usually comes in around 142 to 145..

When he fought Margarito for the 154 belt, Pac weighed around 142..
