All of the sports newspapers in Japan highlighted the news of Eto's retirement from the sport.
In 2015 in the city of Sendai, Japan, Eto had a world title opportunity when he challenged for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight title against the champion Carlos “Príncipe” Cuadras, who won by twelve round decision.
Eto, who's idol is Nicaraguan great Alexis Arguello, is now planning to give boxing lessons to young people, online via Zoom, and he wants to open his own gym in Tokyo or Okinawa in the future.
Eto was crowned WBA interim-flyweight world champion in 2013 in Bangkok, the Thai capital, by beating Kompayak Porpramook (CP Freshmart, Suriyan Satorn) by decision.
With this great triumph by Eto, the Japanese boxing fanatics went to the moon, because Japanese boxers had 17 consecutive losses in Thailand - which began when Tokyo flyweight Masahiko “Fighting Harada failed in his first starting defense in Bangkok in 1963 against Thai Pong Kingpetch in their rematch.
Eto's reign was short-lived, as he lost in his first defense that took place in Thailand in November 2013 against Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep (CP Freshmart, Sirichai Thaiyen), to whom he lost by TKO in round twelve.
His last fight was held in August 2019 at Osceola Heritage Center in Kissmmee, Florida - when he lost a ten round decision to Puerto Rican Jeyvier “Perrito” Cintron, in an elimination fight to get a crack at the WBO super flyweight world championship. It was a rematch between the two, since four months earlier they had fought in the same venue to a first round no-contest due to a clash of heads that generated a knockout of Cintron.
