There’s gonna be a lot of boxers who don’t fight at all this year or maybe only have the one fight.

If some of those small hall guys without a tv promoter gets Fight or two out of the fight camp cards or these bt studio cards then I’m
All for it.

The people moaning really need to look at themselves. We say we love boxing and then fornicating Moan like bitches when sky put a show on and play sweet Caroline ffs.

I fear for small hall boxing going forward it provides the vast majority of work for journeymen and ticket sellers etc the board are going to lose a lot of licence fees etc coz no point in paying out for a licence if there’s no work about and it’s very worrying times for everybody and I just don’t see an end to the problems for a very long time indeed

Hearn has spent £1million turning Matchroom HQ into a temporary arena

He is splashing out a further £4m on purses and expects to make a loss overall.

Ok so why do it if he’s going to make a loss ? Better off doing nothing than paying to go to work

Who knows.. It's his hobby.. It's all he knows.. his boxers know.

The only real income he or his boxers are receiving are purses and sponsors..

I'm guessing Sky are the ones folking out the purses as they're contracted with Matchroom..

and people say Hearn only cares about money..

He used to post here as boxingchat I think. Spent most of his time screaming "FACT" after each sentence. Spud would then usually lumber in and start calling him "boxingchat who cries when he is sacked"

The promoter pays, but what they can pay is impacted by tv deals

Hordes of dudes who root against guys and will hope for them to be ktfo just cuz Eddeh promotes them

On the one hand I kinda get it, cuz it's annoying at times with some of the cheerleading and certain ppl being forced at us, but on the other , for all the bad there's been MR has easily been the one putting out the biggest and best boxing for a while. and ppl totally forget some of the crap that used to be served up. lol, as if fwank and co were just always putting out gems

I actually like the house set up , maybe just cause it's different. but it was kinda cool to have it outdoors in the darkness of night

I don't mind the bt set up either though it's a bit more bland. maybe for some corny novelty affect they could set up the background like a gym and have guys working the bags and stuff. or maybe that would be ghey lol

Yeah I didn’t really enjoy the fights, but the matchroom set up really looked the biz, outdoors, summer evening etc - good effort, apart from the usual DIRE commentary. Plus the ridiculous OTT PPE on display. And the calamitous Ian John Lewis.

whereas the BT W*rren thing had all the atmosphere of a dentist waiting room. I read F*anks shows have an impressive 100% home fighter win record so far, though I guess matchroom won’t be far off that either.

Yeh, promoters make their money in many ways.. one of them is selling broadcast rights.

£5m loss my hoop. He might have spent £5m putting it all together including purses but he will get broadcast fees, advertising revenue and PPV buys for the Whyte fight, which they will hype the hell out of. He could break even just with that PPV. 250k buys at £19.95. Not impossible.

Yes they do.

That’s also different to what you originally said. Matchroom taking in all the incomings and paying all the outgoings is different to Sky paying the fighters purses.

Your original scenario insinuated that Matchroom would not be losing any money here as it’s the broadcaster who pays out the purse to the fighter.

I’m well aware that Matchroom would be losing money..

Some are saying they’ll make some money back or break even at least with the PPV..

And that’s a fair point. For example if you assume Sky pay £100k a show and the PPV does 400k buys id imagine they won’t do so bad out of it all.
